Time of anti-rejection meds anyone done something different from 8a/8p
I know that the anti-rejection meds are to be taken on an empty stomach; that is taken two hours after a meal or one hour before a meal. Has anyone tried a different timing rather than 8a and 8p? I'm finding it hard to have finished eating the evening meal by 6pm. Any other ways of doing it?

I actually switched mine to 9:30 and may even push it to 10 my nurse said people do it all the time but only move it a half hour at a time. I moved it back a half hour waited a couple days then did it again. It just works better for my lifestyle.

2 ReactionsGood to know. I didn't know how to handle the switch time-wise. So your nurse was okay with 30 minutes increments to make the switch. Thanks!

1 Reaction@benedict66066 I think as long as you keep it 12 hrs apart in order to keep a good blood level in your system, you'll be good.
Like @jessdualtransplant said when you make the move, do it by half hour increments. My husband did that when he had to travel across time zones, adjusting ahead of the travel and right after the travel, then reversing it when he headed home. Consistency is the key! And, remembering to take them. This October my husband celebrates his 10 year transplantiversary, and has forgotten his night meds less than 5 times!

1 ReactionHi. Interesting. My Mayo care team said I do not have to worry about empty stomach or not ? Possible me (and my wife) got that wrong but my monthly testing has gone well every month the last 2.5 years. Also I have had minor surgeries, procedures , stents , bloodwork's etc where I was not able to do meds exactly 12 hours apart. Often a bout a 3 hour delay or early. I ALWAYS ask a doctor ahead of time when this happens they always say that is fine. So we do want to do 12 hours but from time to time off by a few hrs is np. Someone (not a doctor , a lab person ) told me TAC (my most important med) stays in our system for 72 hours. I have insomnia every night and do my meds 3 AM and 3 PM.
And my monthly bloodwork has been great with no signs of liver rejection for over 2 years. Best of luck.

2 Reactions@benedict66066 I’m 4.5 years out from a liver transplant and generally stick to the 8am 8pm schedule. When I travel and change time-zones, I just stick to same time-adjusted schedule. So for example, we are traveling to France next week and will take my Tacro at 2pm & 2am local time. I’m a 66 year old man, so I’m up several times a night anyway! I put alarms on my iPhone so I don’t forget - because I feel so terrific that I often forget that I’m a transplant patient.

4 Reactions@craigcraig My team also say it doesn't matter if you take them with food or not, but what matters is consistency in how you take them. I take my meds 9:30am/ 9:30pm.
