Time of anti-rejection meds anyone done something different from 8a/8p
I know that the anti-rejection meds are to be taken on an empty stomach; that is taken two hours after a meal or one hour before a meal. Has anyone tried a different timing rather than 8a and 8p? I'm finding it hard to have finished eating the evening meal by 6pm. Any other ways of doing it?

@jimb43581921 @craigcraig. How interesting that your team says it doesn't matter whether or not your stomach is empty. Multiple transplant patients including a tac drug rep said to be sure to take these meds on an empty stomach. Which, sometimes I am able to pull off and sometimes not. Thanks for your input!

1 Reaction@benedict66066 Ah ha !!! You were right. Old man Craig must have forgotten. Better to be lucky than good as my monthly test results have all come up golden but I will know for going forward. Thanks ! From Mayos website.
If you are using the extended-release capsule:
Swallow the capsule whole with liquid. Do not crush, break, chew, or divide it.
Take the capsule every morning, preferably on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or at least 2 hours after a meal.
Do not drink alcohol with the capsule.
@benedict66066 This is why we all have different daily dosage levels to achieve our targeted Tacrolimus blood level. I am in the beginning of my third year post transplant and taking 2.5 mg twice daily to hit my target blood level of 5-7 mcg/L. If I were to take the tacro on an empty stomach my daily dosage would probably be lower to achieve the same targeted Tacrolimus blood level.

2 ReactionsMy wife is a strict 8 and 8 woman. In the hospital (mayo Phx) on the transplant floor the nurses were very casual about those times and she was very frustrated. The nurses told her that they were required to make sure the patients got those medications plus or minus and hour. Not sure is it matters but we have heard this countless times, (in Mayo Phx) over the 8 years she has been a kidney transplant patient.
She is still an 8 & 8 woman but she doesn't worry about it if she is a half hour or 45 min late because of a blood draw or something.

3 Reactions@geomusser good to know. Yes, the nurses do have a hour leeway. They work hard but just cannot control what comes their way at any given moment. Hope all is well for your wife.

Don't need to try to fix something that is working so well. But fyi multiple doctors (both Mayo and local) have told me up to 3 hour variance is no problem at all and no need to report it , adjust anything etc.. It has to do with the half life's of the medications and how long they stay in ones system. But the 12 hour thing both works and is to keep folks on track. Congrats on your wife doing so well !
