squamous cell in throat

Posted by jimchardy @jimchardy, Sep 30, 2018

I started developing a lesion in my throat about two months ago. It has recently become more aggressive to the point it has opened a hole in the back of my throat and liquids come out my nose when I swallow.

Any advice on this conditions implications would be appreciated..

I’m so happy for you! Positive outlook has so much power in treatment, I know my husband’s positive outlook helped him too! You can do it.....in Nov he was in remission and will be checked with CT every 3 months and hopefully he will be labeled cancer free after 5 years. All the best and keep up that positive outlook kiddo!! 🤓🤗

Today I will undergo the 17th radiation treatment on my squamous cell carcinoma and initial signs of radiation burn are appearing on both sides of my throat. I am applying Aquaphor to treat it. I did find out that my tumor is HPV positive and the size of the tumor is already shrinking significantly. My side effects are mild, so far, compared with those others in this thread have experienced-a mild sore throat along with moderate swallowing difficulty. If no more significant issues develop, I will consider myself fortunate.

You are doing very well after 17 treatments. It will probably get worse but this is a good sign! And HPV is easier to treat. I'm really glad for you.

get to a ear nose and throat dr NOW....my husband is in his 4th year of remission but he had to go through a lot to get to this point. Arizona oncology is also a good ave . to take...DO IT NOW...!!!!!!

An ear and throat oncologist surgeon at Oregon Health Sciences University is where this all began. He had a tissue sample from my throat biopsied to determine if my "suspicious appearing" lump in my throat was cancer and everything thereafter is a result.

I cannot loose sight of the fact that I am also dealing with stage 4 renal cell carcinoma, five years post diagnosis, so I am heavily dependant upon friends and family to keep me positive.

I have HPV throat cancer consisting of a tumor near my left tonsil plus some small lesions in my lymph nodes on the right side. I am at radiation treatment 18 today and just seeing radiation burns beginning on both sides of my throat. I am treating the burn with aquaphor.

Hi Jim, It is good to hear from you again.
I had 40 radiation treatments five years ago, so I know what you are going through right now. I was very successful in treating the burns with aloe. I started with aquaphor, tons of it just right after radiation; but later in the day, I would rest with slices of fresh cooled aloe on the radiated area. I would even cut a small piece, and let it melt in my mouth. If you are willing to experiment with this, I can give you further instructions.
Best to you, Loli

My husband is going through the same thing you are......right now we are in 1 month remission. He had 7 weeks of radiation and 6 weeks of chemo X1 per week. I know what you are going through and hopefully I can give you some tips. We kept a bottle of aloe in the frig, when ithe burns got really bad he would squirt on hands and apply to the neck. He did use asphor quite a bit from the beginning to about a month after treatments. I’m not sure if this was good, but at the end of treatments he started keeping those in frig as well. I wish you all the best I. Your treatments. Yes it has to be hard but the reward is so great!

Thank you for your insight and advice. I will keep the idea about aloe in mind as we do have aloe plants we tend for summer sun bburns.
