Selfharm

Posted by Ryman @ryman, Jun 30, 2017

I assume this is the right group. I have never discussed this with anyone but my grandson yells at me about it. When I get very stressed, I sometimes scratch my arms or face. I haven’t done any real harm. It is a way to relieve stress when it gets to be too much. I cannot tolerate anxiety or depression medicines which I assume would be a doctor’s answer. Does anyone else deal with this?

@lioness Hi Linda, thanks for all the help! Yes, I have talked with them and they’ve got me on a special program for prescriptions. It really helps. I want to cry when I see all these folks writing to me with helping suggestions. My heart is truly touched! Thank you so much Linda……….Karen

@karen00 – Good morning. I agree that PT exercises can be very painful. I'm sorry that I can't think of anything that would help your pain other than what I've said. Have you talked to your pain manager or doctor that your meds aren't working that well?

@merpreb Good Evening Merry, sorry I’m late getting back to you & everyone else. It was an emotional day and I wanted to hide my head in the sand! Anyway, I have an appt. with the pain doctor in 2 weeks, but I can’t move it up because of $. I wish I could do more with my exercises, but the time I kept going when I should have stopped, I paid for it the next days. Thank you so much for writing……….Karen

@karen@karen00- You don't have to ever apologies for not answering right away. I know that you are having a really really bad time, your written words speak volumes. I think that right now you need to connect with a some emotional support. I understand that there is tension between you and your brother too. So you really need someone who will give you some emotional support.
Do you have a counselor who you can call?
I'm so glad that you have an appointment with your pain guyi, but you also need to make that other call. Don't you think that it's time?

@karen00 Are you able to speak with your landlord to see if anything can be worked out? Even though your brother's and your finances are separate, there may be a program that considers the household income, which is the both of you. You might check with your county's housing agency. Having someone who can temporarily foster your dog may help. We're here for you!

@gingerw Hi Ginger! Your idea about us using my income is a good one, but my brother has already signed the lease. I have a social worker who has checked into low income housing and for that, we cannot be counted together. You won’t believe this but the wait is FOUR YEARS! I am trying to find a place for Kelly but all the fostering places I’ve come upon only take the dogs from shelters. I might have 1 friend that will do it. Thanks for caring Ginger! Your compassion shines through.
I think you were the 1 who was helping me with this- every time I try to reply to someone, I have to re-sign in. It’s time consuming! Help…….Karen

@karen00 have you considered looking into renting a room? This may be a good temporary solution, and could lead to a more permanent situation. I have done that in the past, and it was a godsend in otherwise dire straits. A good place to start is with your faith community, and people you know. They know what kind of person you are, and may have a room to rent, or know of someone. There is also usually a group like Homeshare available through senior services in your county, that can act as a go-between. Many times a homeowner would like some company, or to supplement their own financial situation, with a renter. It sounds harsh, but since your brother signed the lease, that responsibility is his. You cannot afford to jeopardise your own health. I hope your day is going better today.

@karen00– I hope that your next week is ten times, a million times better than this last one. I think that it's best to get your priorities in order. Is it finding a room to let, as Ginger has suggested or your financial situation?. Tackle one thing at a time. Don't over load your self. What is your top priority?

@lisalucier Hi Lisa, thanks for thinking of me & writing! Today was a little better. I finally got some sleep last night. Night before last I never closed my eyes. I have chronic insomnia. I have tried so many meds and nothing helps! Or I sleep with unacceptable side effects.
Lisa- how are YOU?….Karen
