I had rectal prolapse surgery in 2023. Afterwards, I have suffered with chronic constipation, incomplete bowel movements, having to make multiple trips to the bathroom to defecate, and even some incontinence issues. When I am able to relieve myself, I have pain around my anus for hours afterwards. I wish I’d never done this.
@judyreed1953 I'm so sorry your surgery didn't work. Can I ask what type of surgery you had and where it took place. I am seeing a surgeon in March for rectal prolapse surgery and also have bladder prolapse. I am very scared that I may end up worse off and yet my experience that I have now with incomplete evacuation and bloating and gas makes me want to do the surgery. I just don't know which way to go. Leave it alone and go on like this or try to fix it. I'm trying to find the best surgeon possible.
Hi- I’m about to have rectal and bladder surgery, laparoscopic and robotic respectively. I would so appreciate any details you could give me about your procedure, and when you had it done. Tks in advance!
@downnout59 I'm wondering if you had your surgery and how things turned out for you. I hope things are going well. I have an appointment for the same thing in March. Thanks for your help.

Hi there- so what I had done was a rectopexy with sigmoid colon resection in September, and sacrololpopexy with hysterectomy (keeping ovaries intact) and a rectocele repair. Several months in I can say that I no longer leak which is so amazing I could kiss my underwear every day- no joke. That being said, part of the problem was constipation, so I still get constipated, the external rectocele is no longer there, but the internal one is still there, or returned, I’m not sure which. My colorectal surgeon wants to do another procedure to strength. My pelvic floor, which is very weak, but I’m not inclined to do that. Instead, I’m working hard with my pelvic floor specialist, who’s helped with a little post-op bladder spillage- when I would get up or sit down- all cured now, and very normal- and with pelvic floor levels, distinguishing between front and back level sensing. I still have to use half a ducolax now and then, or a bit of a suppository, and then need a squatty potty and then also need to splint to get the poop out. And I’m still healing, so I think it will get better. I’m sure everyone’s experience is different, but I’m happy I did the procedures, and recognize that no surgery is a panacea and post op pelvic floor efforts are essential. Best of luck!
I had rectal prolapse last April and it was very successful. I had robotic surgery and my Dr is in New York. She was excellent. If you want her name I will glad to give it to you.

@downnout59 thank you for responding. I have prolapsed mucosal rectum and prolapsed bladder. I had for 30 years ulcerative proctitis and it evidently has now healed but with all the agony I went through with that there’s lots of scar tissue which frightens me for having complications due to the scar tissue because I had a small bump removed from the outside of my rectum and was given general anesthesia to take it off.
That’s where my complications began. When the doctor performed the surgery it created a stricture which no doctor would help with and it would close up as i would try to defecate. I ended up taking matters in my own hands to open it after probably 3 years but from all the pushing down to defecate it created a total collapse of the colon along with prolapse in both directions. My worry about surgery is getting another stricture but I will go see a surgeon in March to see what she says. A surgeon that I did see said that if I get it fixed I will probably leak just due to putting the rectum back in place and the muscles not being tight. Maybe that can be worked on through exercises like you did.

I’m so sorry for your troubled. My advice would be to make sure you check out your surgeons thoroughly, and then do what you need to do to get back your quality of life- no one should have to deal with agony and embarrassment on a daily basis. And take it one step at a time- surgery is not a panacea, but if done well, will create the basis for you work on restoring strength in your pelvic floor. Thank you for your prayers, and I pray you will be successful as well🙏🏻
I believe that question was about a doctor in New York. It was not my string.
