Does anyone have a solution to help manage Reclast side effects?

Posted by dingus @dingus, Aug 15, 2024

Does anyone have a solution to combat Reclast side effects. I had the infusion a year and a half ago and the side effects started shortly after I had the infusion. I still have weak legs, swelling in feet, pain in bones, dizziness (serious dizziness), cold sweats, tired all the time and nervous twitching in bones. Any suggestions?

@diddlyd
I suggest you look up zoledronic acid on Wikipedia.
You don’t have a medical background, but Wikipedia is pretty thorough.
Zoledronic acid does increase cell mass in bone marrow, and reduces cell death in the bone marrow.
Your conclusion that its use is counterproductive in contradicted by the hundreds of thousands of patient data available.

@micheleroyalty7 Your information is based on bone density scans, and all thta doss is take a picture to see if the porosity of the bones has improved, meaning the holes are filled but with what quality, certainly not real bone matter. I don't care how many brands they rename this stuff, it's all a form of Bisphosphonates! There is big money involved in administering this stuff, which is not cheap, all while they use you as a human lab rat! They do not generate real bone; that is a false statement, it's a filler!

@diddlyd Hence......"Yes, bisphosphonates bind to bone mineral and can remain in the bones for a long time, potentially exceeding ten years. This binding helps to strengthen bones and reduce the risk of fractures".

This process is no doubt causing serious side effects.

I'm feeling this way on Alendronate and I'm not sure where to go next, as far as treatment. Did Evenity for a yr, no issues, great gains. Now trying to maintain on Alendronate. I feel and understand how serious this new chronic muscle and joint pain is for all speaking up about it. The full impact of chronic pain, both physically and emotionally, takes a toll!! Going to an orthopedic and endocrinologist to try and eliminate possibilities. I did see where *gently* mentioned a possible suggestion need to peddle back and bookmark it. She is so knowledgeable and offers tremendous support in here.

@micheleroyalty7 I sure regret getting the Reclast injection. Have never hurt so bad. Back surgery was a piece of cake compared to the pain I now have.

@bytheriver I agree. Back surgery and hip surgery were a breeze compared to the debilitating pain caused by Reclast. Good luck to you.

@cathymal actually I thought it was bone b
Pain too. Doctor said muscle pain. Some says it goes away in a few days. Mine has lasted 6 months. I walk and do yoga a lot. Sometimes much worse than others. IBU and Tylenol help but oh course, there is a limit as to how much you can have. Voltaren rub helps. Just having to deal with it😢

@lwidstrand reading your statement! I too have had the Reclast infusion 23 months ago! Had I known of All the potential side effects from this medication I never would have received it! I retired just a few months after the infusion and it’s been a battle every single day since. I’m a 69 year old male that has been in pretty good shape and health for my age. Received the Reclast and both shoulders, left foot, nausea at times, inflammation in my eyes, difficulty breathing at times, electrical shocks in my back and limbs ever since and often the feeling of complete exhaustion after doing just about anything. Some days are better than others but boy does this Suck. I continue to hope that my body will fight this demon and I will come out of this and be “ normal” again. Been to numerous doctors and no one has an answer as to why I am experiencing these symptoms along the lines of inflammation throughout my body and/or treatment. I’ve had to stop their testing because I feel more like a Ginny pig just getting tossed around. I do go by weekly to physical therapy. As for legal ramifications…..no matter how much one could receive, I’m thinking the money is not going to take these symptoms away. Should you find a legal avenue I’d be interested? Best of luck to you! Keep your head held high!

@dannyandebbie Thank you so much for sharing your story. You have been through a lot. And it’s been 22 months! I’m still hoping that at the 18th or 19th months my side effects will start to go away. My pain is so bad now. Lower back and legs. Even my feet and toes. Everyday has become a struggle. You hang in there too.

@terrietfp I’m sorry to report that after about 10 days, my pain has returned although somewhat diminished. It’s tolerable. I too, am looking forward to walking my dog. Unfortunately, I’m not walking my dog yet.

@margaret3363 hopefully the day will be soon that you start to feel more normal and will be able to walk your dog. Just try and take one day at a time! Best of luck!

@alenef hopefully no issues if you have already had two! Just follow along drinking plenty of water before infusion and medication! Best of luck. I need to be totally honest, after reviewing symptoms and my experience, I will Never have another infusion! Best of luck
