Reclast infusion side effects?

Posted by ladybugnc @ladybugnc, May 26 2:38pm

I had the Reclast infusion 5 months ago in my left arm. I have started having pain in that arm now, with loss of strength. Has this happened to anyone else?

I am on the fence too. I have an appointment next week but thinking about canceling it. I was suck for weeks last year after I had the infusion.

After my first infusion, I was very sick with flu-like symptoms. However, I just had my second infusion, and exactly as the drug company information said, my side effects this time were minor and not worrisome. I would not hesitate to do a third. The nurse ran saline before, during, and after the Reclast and set the Reclast for 45 minutes. I was super hydrated and had taken Zyrtec and Tylenol before. I continued to take Tylenol for a few days. Note, I have Mast Cell syndrome and react very easily and this time, as I said, I reacted very little.

Whoa! That is not a response id have been pleased with if he were my provider. Sounds a bit defensive and imfantilizing. Have you considered getting a second opinion?

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I was looking for another doctor and just have found one. She had an opinion that Prolia is better for me,

Melia, like gravity3, I'd be looking for another specialist, but you may not have that luxury.
Like you, I'd still be reluctant to start Reclast. You might have better luck with an endocrinologist as osteoporosis is primarily an endocrine disorder.
Still that spinal T -3 is reminding me of how unhappy you'll be if you fracture meanwhile.
Bless your bones.

I appreciate very much your attention!
About endocrinologist. A place where one lives and specialists available close by are important for a possibility of our choices. Where I live it is difficult to find a good endocrinologist, and in addition websites of doctors rarely include their CV. So, how one can judge about doctors qualifications?

Melia7,
I've read that it is mainly hospitalist who prescribe teriparatide in Spain. And that teriparatide isn't widely prescribed. You might have better success with a physician at a University medical clinic. Of course, there may be none anywhere near.
I've had luck in the past calling manufacturers and asking who is prescribing and where they are sending a particular medication.
It could be that neither of the doctors you've see have ever prescribed teriparatide.
I often drive 200 miles north or south to larger cities with universities.

Well, I went to my Rheumatologist last week, she has ordered X-ray of my shoulders and left foot, ordered blood work and prescribed a low dose of Prednisone for 15 days after the blood work so I get an accurate results. I continue to find that the more active that I am the less the pain is; but it continues to be a constant problem. Hopefully between the two test I can get some better results; it has been 15 months!

Although it’s mentioned that everybody seems to take Claritin which takes 3 hours to really take effect and Zyrtec takes 1 hour. Zyrtec’s main ingredient is cetirizine hydrochloride and Claritin’s is loratadine. They do work the same way. Just some information to consider before Reclast.

I take dissolvable 10 mg Zyrtec because it takes effect in about 15 minutes, according to my allergist. She’s right, because when I have a Mast Cell Activation reaction and take it, so far it starts to fade in 10-15 minutes. It is labeled as pediatric but it is the same as the adult 10 mg dosage. It is just dissolvable. I carry it with me always and it has prevented me from needing my epi- pens, so far at least.

sandrac, would you mind letting me know how much fluid you took before and after and when you started taking it prior to the infusion, Could you also comment on when you started the Tylenol and how often you took that?
I sure would appreciate it.

Both are great to take before. I think whichever one you are used to or works best for you should be your choice. My infusion place is over an hour to get to, so I took the Claritin as soon as I got up that morning because that's what I happened to have on hand. I have also taken Zyrtec.

has anyone used SERM (raloxifene) post teriparatide as anti resorptive instead of reclast or prolia?
