Has anyone experienced Parkinson hallucinations brought on by taking carbidopa/levodopa?

@sillyblone When you said that your husband is whispering,
Whispering is common to Parkinsons or speaking in a low voice. I've read that there are people who retrain those who have that symptom to consciously raise and project their voice so as to sound normal.

@chanemann1 He has done that. It worked well. He is end stage Parkinsons and he is able to communicate. He is trying to get back his movement skills with rehab. He really is having a difficult time. Mainly due to his brain changing and he does not remember how to do things that he once was able to do without thinking. Dementia has complicated his abilities.

@sillyblone my husband is experiencing many of the same symptoms you describe. His “stage” of Parkinson’s was never mentioned. How did you determine that? Except forPD, his health is good. How long has he had PD? His age, if you wouldn’t mind sharing.

@monmk My spouse is 74yo. He started with essential tremors in 2013. Was officially diagnosed in 2018. He was told by a neurologist and then last year he saw a movement disorder neurologist. He said he was 4.5 stage at that time. He is definately losing alot of his functional abilities like walking without falling. He has fallen several times in the last 6 months. Balance is non existant for the majority of the time. He uses his walker and his wheelchair if needed. His seizures lead them to believe along with Covid that his congnitive abilities are not always there for him to make quick decisions. He has a heart condition added because of Covid. A couple of weeks ago he was given the diagnosis of Dementia. He is in rehab. He is really doing well considering what he has been through. He has been following with Pallative /Hospice Care. He is in a pretty good mood today. But..that can change quickly as well. He is very dependent on me and that is ok. I am whom he trusts to help him make decisions. I hope this answer your questions. My brother has End Stage PD with Lewy Body Disease. He is 68yo. He is in Hospice. The age does not have any rhyme or reason when it comes with this awful disease. Hugs.

@hopeful33250 My spouse has been taking Carbidopa-Levodopa for many years. He just recently started to have what the physicians relayed to me as Parkinson's Psychosis. He is on Exelon. He is a different person with this patch/24 hr. It has bought my spouse back to me for as long as it works. He has not been doing well prior. He was appalled at how he was acting out. I cannot tell you how it bought him back in less than 48 hrs. I actually felt we could talk about so many things. He was so loving. He was apologetic to me and was upset at himself for his behavior. They tweked his seizure meds. Seizures under control. He is having physical therapy as well as speech. He speech is fine other than the talking quietly. Actually like he is whispering. He has shared more today..than he has in a long time. Actually months. Counting my blessings.🫂💞

Thank you. Yes, it is nice. Unfortunately he just called me. He said he felt his heart beating to fast and he was crying. I told him to put the light on for the nurse. He was either sounding like anxiety or a spike in his b/p. I told it could be both. I reassured him that they would take his b/p to rule it out. He takes Lamictal for seizures and that will help with the anxiety.

It actually did. He walked to the nurses station to get his b/p checked. It was within normal limits. He said he felt better and remembered about his medication , because I had said he was probably having anxiety because he was scared. He took small deep breaths and realized he felt better. He said he was lucky he had me to reassure him. Of course he knows I would never let him leave his bed without calling the nurses if I thought he was in danger. I already was sure he was fine..but it is better for him to know he was in control. Especially when he has been through so much since Jan. Sometimes having a little control over your decisions builds strength, self awareness and feeling of something positive in the end. We talked for a little while. He was getting drowsy and he said he would see me tomorrow. We exchanged some private conversations and then hung up the phone. I knew he felt safe for now. I had stayed home today as I was exhausted and needed a much needed rest.
