Oral lichen Planus: What home remedies or medications help you?
Anyone in the group suffer from Oral Lichen Planus. I am at my wits end with all these erosive sores in my mouth. I've had two biopsies , one in the inside cheek and one under the side of my tongue. The spot under the tongue is extremely sore to touch and has been for over a year. It scares me because the soreness never goes away, sometimes it isn't as sore but nothing helps. Any home remedies for this dreadful condition?

I also have Oral Lichen Planus, I have had breakouts in my mouth for over a year and a half. I have been doing intermittent fasting and keto for 8 years. Theses breakouts in my mouth were devastating I couldn't eat and they hurt all the time and were mental consuming because I could not find answers. I actually didn't even want to live any more because I couldn't find an answer and it hurt and was such a problem.
The strange thing is this year I had a family reunion and I went and ate like normal people do, I did not intermittent fast or watch what I ate. I ate junk food and carbohydrates. Not being mindful because I was with family and just didn't want to have to monitor my eating.
My mouth cleared up. It has been over a month and I have not had a breakout.
I have no idea what was missing in my diet that my body needed but my mouth is now clear.
I cannot help anyone because I don't know why my mouth cleared up. BUT if you relate to this maybe it will help.

1 ReactionDido the Cleure toothpaste. I tried so many and found that the best for me! I also do Oil Pulling with coconut oil a few days a week.

1 ReactionI’m so sorry that you’re going through this. I had oral lichen planus for years. Sometimes it would go into remission, but would return…sometimes for no apparent reason, but often during times of stress. Over the years, I had three biopsies on my tongue. It was not pleasant! The ones on the underside took a while to heal, as the biopsy site would rub against the bottom teeth. I also had GI issues at the time, and bad breath. I’d had a parasite that had been eradicated with antibiotics, but it had really messed up my GI tract. I worked with an integrative medicine practitioner to fix that problem and the bad breath disappeared. My mouth also started to heal, so there is a connection. In the meantime, however, my dentist prescribed Dexamethasone Oral Solution 0.5 per mL. I had to rinse and spit a few times a day for several days, but it really helped to soothe and heal the lesions. I also had a gold crown, which my dentist replaced, as the lichen planus was worse in that area of my mouth. (Do you have any old, silver amalgam fillings?) Something else that can help is Magic Mouthwash. Your doctor and pharmacy will know about that. One of the ingredients is lidocaine, which can help with the discomfort. I truly wish you well. 🙏🏻

1 ReactionI’ve had oral lichen planus for about 10 years. My dental hygienist called it. I thought it was cold sores. It’s mainly cheeks and under my tongue. I had a really extended breakout about a year ago. It was hard to eat and rather depressing. I’ve used magic mouthwash, but I always had to refill a prescription and use a compounding pharmacy. Very inconvenient and it would be several days to get my meds. I read about cobetasol being helpful and I asked my dermatologist about it. She prescribed fluocinonide gel. If I feel the beginning of an outbreak I dab a bit on the sore spot and it seems to stop the outbreak. My dentist said it is off label use for my lichen planus. It’s been a game changer. I tend to flare up a lot when I’m under stress. My inner cheek outbreaks are on both sides of my mouth and almost parallel. This summer I can eat tomatoes and lemon seasoning! I use Biotene toothpaste.
