BE since 2012. Positive for MAC December 2025 from sputum culture. Referred to NJH, and appointments are currently scheduled for May 2026. A local pulmonary specialist performed a bronchoscopy in January 2026. The bronchoscopy culture was NEG for MAC, but I was positive for Pseudomonas.
NJH said that I can continue with my appointment if I want to. My local doctor said they felt confident to manage the BE.
I am a thin, 59-year-old female (more susceptible to MAC) and run a horse farm, where I cut 14 acres of grass, clean horse stalls, etc.
I can't decide whether to keep my appointment at NJH. I would really like to educate myself on how to keep myself healthy, etc.

I had a 10 day scheduled at NJH and found an airbnb a block or two away from the health center. It was within walking distance and close to restaurants a coffee shop and a grocery store. I found the place on the Airbnb website. https://www.airbnb.com/

1 Reaction@ladywindemere thank you! How was your experience? With NJH
What AI wrote seems very helpful. I was at NJH last October for 6 days of testing plus weekends (nothing planned) and travel days.
I stayed at an upscale hotel in Cherry Creek, about a 15 minute Uber ride from NJH. It was too upscale for me...no dresser drawers, etc...and would not stay there again. The schedule didn't leave me time to go back to the hotel between appointments but there was often time that was idle. I went a day early to adjust to the altitude but there was really no adjustment I had to make. My last appointments were on a Monday. I left on Tuesday.
I have not returned, and I probably will not. It is a hassle to get there, and I'm almost 85. You will be assigned an Ambassador and primary doctor. My doctor was a pulmonologist. The Ambassador can add on visits or change them if the doctors choose to do that. Everyone there was very helpful. I had to ask directions almost every time I went to a new location. Don't be embarrassed by that. My pulmonologist from there still follows me for when I send in a sputum culture or have any questions or tests. My pulmonologist here in Arizona gets reports and sent all my information to NJH before the first time I went.
There are probably lots of other questions you have. I'd be glad to answer any before you go. Good luck.

1 Reaction@ladywindemere did you have a rental car or did you take the train?
Renting a car was most convenient for us. I did not need to use it since NJH was in walking distance from the airbnb but my husband used it to tour the Denver area. The airport is a distance from NJH with many options to get into Denver proper..
NJH has a discount at Enterprise ( they give you a code in the intro materials)so you can rent a car for $30 a day. If you do it on line or call ask for a compact car, the simplest and when you actually pick up the car you are given really good options within the compact car range price

Hi Uperjohn1,
I see Dr. Bridgett Ronan at Arizona Pulmonary Specialists on Via Linda in Scottsdale. I never heard of Norton Thoracic Institute. How did you hear of them? Dr. Ronan has been very supportive and helpful in getting all my records sent to NJH last year. I have a mild case of BE and am happy with my treatment. Dr. Ronan has always been available when I've needed or wanted to see her.
Good luck to your wife.
Roz
Norton is affiliated with St Joe's Hospital in PHX. They deal with lung issues and specialize in lung transplants as well as treating BE. One of the leads on the Mayo website (Sue?) posted a listing of all the hospitals/clinics networked in the US that specialize in BE. The only group in AZ that was on the list was Norton and they were categorized as an affiliate member. So thought I would see if Charlotte might be accepted for treatment since we're totally satisfied with AZ Pulmonary. If you're interested forward your e-mail and or phone number and maybe you and Charlotte can discus your situations.

Hi John,
I would be happy to talk to Charlotte about treatment options. I tried to get into Mayo Clinic when I first was diagnosed, but they wouldn't accept me.
My husband had Parkinson's Disease, and he had his treatment through St. Joe's. My son had esophageal cancer, and he was treated at St. Joe's also. But I had never heard about Norton before now and know nothing about their BE treatment.
I'm sending my e mail address. Please feel free to contact me. Then we can exchange phone numbers.
Good luck. Roz
