Menopause support: Introduce yourself and connect

Posted by Kelly, Moderator @klp, Dec 15, 2025

Welcome to the menopause support group on Mayo Clinic Connect.

This is a welcoming, safe place for anyone going through the stages of menopause, including perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause. You’re invited to share your experiences, ask questions big or small, and offer encouragement to others walking a similar path.

Please take these steps to participate in the group:

  • Follow the group.
  • Browse the topics.
  • Use the group search to find answers to your questions.
  • Introduce yourself.

No matter where you are in your journey, you’re invited to join the conversation and connect with others.

Let’s chat. Why not start by introducing yourself? Everyone experiences menopause differently -- what's your experience been like?
Do you have a question to ask or a story to share?

I am 53 years old, and I've gone 1 year without a period. My symptoms have been mild, but lately I'm having deep hip pain. I get massages monthly, but they only help for a few days. Any suggestions?

My vaginal estrogen was changed to DHEA suppositories made by Intrarosa. Kind of expensive but for increased moisture, the occasional boost to libido and greater enjoyment of sex it's been very helpful. My bladder still gets sore some days from the decrease in my natural estrogen, especially post-hysterectomy. I'm using Estradiol gel 1.25mg that's pre-measured. I rub it daily behind my knees, on my wrists and my sides.

Thanks for posting this kisu.
I have been on bhrt for a year now. My pellet contains both estradiol and testosterone. I am a strong advocate for including testosterone with hormone replacement therapy.

@gravity3 Who administers your pellet?

I am well past menopause but I have had painful hips for a long time and now i am finding that low estrogen may be the culprit . No doctor has suggested that low estrogen could cause this? Has anyone received HRT for this and has it worked for pain?

@klp Such a needed group to help us through this phase of menopause. Am 70 post menopausal and still searching for support and specific physicians to help us deal with such a challenging medical phase for women. We must advocate for ourselves. Thank you.

This is a great question. Does your provider think it is caused by osteoporosis? I scanned the topics in the Menopause group and did not see a specific discussion on the subject, though it might be in various comments.

Can I suggest you start a new discussion in the Menopause group on this subject?
Maybe with title: Can HRT therapy help with hip pain?

Connect members with hip pain who take HRT for that reason may be able to provide some advice.

@roch I am on HRT partly due to wrist and hand inflammation. I rub a 1.25mg Estradiol gel behind my knees, on my wrists, hands and sides of my torso. Yes, it helps. I was not absorbing the .100 mg patch well. I am 49 y/o and recently put into surgical menopause.

I'm glad this group is being started. I thought when I was put on prempro in my late 40's, that I would just keep taking it. I felt great, but had gained some weight. I stopped prempro when I was 60 (small mass found in breast) and I was still feeling fine. I'm now 76 and the anxiety and depression that I have been experiencing was really getting me down. I've just started on a low dose of the estrogen patch (0.025) and 100 mg of progesterone. So far so good. I'll stay posted.
