Glutathione: What dosage do you use? Where do you get it?
Hi! Yes, I have ALL these but doing surprisingly well…mostly asymptomatic. Got HMPV at Christmas, pretty sick but bounced back. On a mission to try some out of the box treatments to keep me well. If you have used glutathione in a nebulizer, can you tell me who (type doctor) prescribed and what dosage etc. and did you think it helped? Also Sodium Chloride.

Thank you Kathleen – posts like yours warm my heart. When I was diagnosed, the people here on Connect were my lifeline, so it feels wonderful to be helpful to others.
I am a research geek, so finding answers is what I love to do. Unfortunately real research-based answers are in short supply with rare conditions like MAC and even bronchiectasis, so it is a constant search for current best advice.
Who knew 4 years ago what a game-changer 7% saline could be for many of us – not a cure by any means, but when you can write, " I feel so good most days I think they must have all this wrong…" it sounds so good. Especially when the good days outnumber the bad ones!
Airway clearance for me many days means a drop or two of mucus – maybe because the saline and NAC are so effective? So I would not worry about it if I were you, unless you can feel the mucus rattling?
Have a great day, and thanks for brightening mine!
😊 Good to know Sue, about the drop or two….that's the same for me…often much later in the day.
Thank you again!!
I have read posts here that mention liquid Glutathione as the Gold Standard for nebulizing. But no one has mentioned a brand or where you can buy it? Does it have to be prescribed? I am currently using the capsules from Theranaturals but would like to try the liquid. Also how is the liquid used? Can you add it to the 7% saline as you can with the capsule? Or? would appreciate any information. And if you have used it for a period of time has it helped? I do not have MAC but i do have chronic Pseudomonas A. with heavy mucus load daily.
Is your capsule effective? I bought the capsule but have not used it. A bit scared that my fragile lung may not take it well. I would love to hear from others who used the capsule.
I have only nebulized with the capsule twice so far. My lungs tolerate it without any issue thus far. The day after the first use i coughed up more easily and thoroughly and felt much better afterwards. For me it is too early to tell if this is going to help or not. The only cautions i have read are for people with Asthma who might be sulfite sensitive and could get Bronchospasm from it. But it seems easy on my lungs. The smell is not pleasant but dissipates as you use it. I decided to try it because i feel i have inflammation which can make the mucus difficult to get up on some days. For me it is essential to get it all out.
Another option would be to use NAC N-acetyl cysteine orally. NAC is a "building block" of glutathione. It is anti-mucolytic (disrupts the production of mucus) and has anti-inflammatory properties. (Long explanation here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2707813/ )
The advantage of NAC is that it is a capsule, you are not introducing a foreign substance into your lungs. This is important if you also have asthma or reactive airway disorder, as inhaled glutathione can cause bronchospasm.
I have had good results using NAC, as have some others here.
NAC gives me insomnia! Apparently that is common for some people. Otherwise i found it helpful but not as much as others seem to.
Did you try taking it in the AM only?
yes. will try again sometime but from everything i have read nebulizing the Glutathione directly into the lungs should give me more results. Time will tell. I don't think you are supposed to do both of them at the same time. Also NAC can have some side effects. I took it for 10 or so days in the past and became very fatigued (not from insomnia that time). Had to stop. But if it helps without side effects i am sure it is worth doing!
I didn’t know that insomnia was a side effect of NAC. Taking it in the morning would mean taking 1/2 of the daily recommended dose? Or would you take 2 capsules and once a day?
