Glutathione: What dosage do you use? Where do you get it?

Posted by kathleenlp @kathleenlp, Apr 4, 2022

Hi! Yes, I have ALL these but doing surprisingly well...mostly asymptomatic. Got HMPV at Christmas, pretty sick but bounced back. On a mission to try some out of the box treatments to keep me well. If you have used glutathione in a nebulizer, can you tell me who (type doctor) prescribed and what dosage etc. and did you think it helped? Also Sodium Chloride.

@kathleenlp Hi Kathleen, no I've never had any heaviness in my chest when using glutathione. And as for airway clearance techniques, I just do postural drainage by lying on my back and then doing some huff coughing which pushes the phlegm up the airways. I've been pretty lucky with just doing that and haven't had to use an aerobika or a vest. And my pulmonologist kind of rolled his eyes when I asked him about glutathione.....I think there's just not enough scientific evidence on it yet. It's an alternative thing to do and I'm an alternative kinda gal. I'm not scared of trying things and I do and have had no problems thus far. And I do research and make decisions on my own. I mean when I think about it, my first pulmonologist didn't even want to prescribe saline solution for goodness sakes and I asked him to look it up for me and that I wanted to do it, so I did and that was six years ago. And it's probably the best thing that ever happened to a lot of us. And it was alternative at that point. Nan

Thanks for the response Nan. I am a little bummed about the glutathione but I guess my body is telling me no. I will continue the sublingual glut.
I will keep trying different airway clearance techniques too.
My pulmonary of 3 years (supposedly one of the best in Houston also never mentioned sodium chloride!! I had to suggest it and then she said "oh yeah, that would be good" UGH!
You are right....I think we have to be brave adventurers and study, discuss and try different things and learn from this community!!
Have a good week!!

Hi Nanette, thank you! It's so great to connect with people in the same journey with a similar mindset!! I just checked The Institute for Functional Medicine website and there are tons of clinics in my area and many with MD's. Yay!
Last night in talking with our financial advisor I discovered she has been going to a homeopathic clinic 5 minutes from me with a MD and a PA! She has been taking glutathione for years (from them but pill form for overall health). So I also put in a call to them. I totally agree on the exercise part. Luckily that's been a part of my lifestyle my entire life. I follow Fuhrman but will look up Hyman. Good tip. May I ask about the Chinese herbs and medicine aspect...I see we have lots of that in Houston too....did your functional doc hook you up with that too? Thank you again!!

Hi Kathleen,

Did you find a functional medicine doctor in Houston? Did you get the nebulizer glutathione? I have a son in Houston so I go to a doctor there and I get IV vitamin treatments too!

Hi Sally!

I did finally get it! $$$. But unfortunately it did not agree with me. Are you trying to get that?

I have been reluctant to inhale anything else into my lungs, so have avoided glutathione. But, I do suffer from extremely thick mucus, and am always looking for ways to thin it. Glutathione, and its relative N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), are mucolytic (thin mucus). So I use oral NAC, 500mg, twice a day along with 7% saline nebs. It seems to help -I no longer wake up at night with thick mucus clogging my throat and making me choke.
Have you heard of NAC?

@sueinmn Sue have you ever heard of anyone using the Mucomyst brand of acetylcysteine for inhalation? Perhaps even mixed in with the 7% saline? Looks to me like the combo might work well. Bill

Here's a long list of mucus thinners, from conventional to experimental. Perhaps one or more of them will be helpful. Good luck!

I haven't heard of it, but I'll bet there is someone on this discussion who has!

Interesting timing. Our PC suggested just last week that my husband Bruce try Mucomyst to loosen up and thin some of the mucous he deals with around the clock.
Bruce has cavitary MAC, Bronchiectasis, Pseudomonas, and is taking daily doses of the three antibiotics plus nebulizing with Albuterol,
7% saline and Arikayce.
His ID/Pulmonologist wasn’t familiar with the use of Mucomyst for MAC but didn’t see a problem with adding it to the regimen.
Bruce expects to start it in the next week or so. We would also be interested in learning of other’s experiences.

Hi Sue!
I follow your posts so I knew about your preferring these. I have done NAC, same dosage, about 10 years, before I even knew I had any of this! I started the saline after both you and Nan recommended and have been doing the sublingual glutathione(does it do anything, who knows???)
I feel so good most days I think they must have all this wrong and then I have a rough day and think I may not be around in a year! My CT's and bronch results are indisputable tho....
I feel I am not good at airway clearance because very little happens. I have tried multiple techniques and devices. I continue to do them daily though.
This forum is SO helpful and we are so thankful for people like you and Nan for great input!!!
