Are any MAC/Bronchiectasis planning on taking the new Covid 19 vaccine?

I get a covid booster spring and fall. And flu in fall. Also had pneumococcal and TDAP. I am 78.

No to Covid but yes to the flu vaccine. I have already had the pneumonia vaccine.

Yes, I really don't understand the resistance to science (vaccines). Perhaps with some it is the fact that unless it "hits home" as it did in your case they just don't get it. Look at measles which has risen to rates not seen in this country in decades. I guess people forget the refrigerator trucks outside large urban area hospitals for the dead during Covid.

I certainly remember the trucks carrying the dead away. I'm in Philly, hit with Covid early and hard, and a front page pic of the back of a mortuary pickup truck loaded with bodies made quite the stir.

We had a long conversation with my daughter who is a former ER nurse and a Master in Nursing student. Her PT job while in school is as a pharmacy nurse, where she does med counseling and vaccinations.

She is still in close touch with her former colleagues, and would like everyone to know that they are telling her RSV is no joke - people can get VERY sick from it. Especially those with lung conditions.

I had Covid last year, and it was no fun - not a candidate for Paxlovid so I had to push through and ended up with an exacerbation. When I told my pulmonologist I didn't know if the vaccine was worth it she asked "Who can tell us how sick you might have been without it?"

My daughter said the medical director for their pharmacy and the ID docs at her old hospital recommend that people consider getting a different Covid vaccine than their "usual" - we will be getting Novavax (non-MRNA) this year.

We will have the Covid & hi-dose flu vaccine before we take off traveling in September. The jury is still out on whether we need an RSV "booster" - neither my daughter nor my doc has the answer yet.

RSV is no joke. Several years ago my sister-in-law was very unlucky and had RSV and flu at the same time and ended up on a ventilator for several days. My bros and I got the RSV vaccine and get flu vaccines religiously.

I had the original Pfizer Covid vaccines and never have had a booster. I'm not convinced about the boosters either. I have had vaccines for shingles and pneumonia (last year) due to recurrent pneumonias since 2020. Last one was a year ago. Praying never again. I had the flu in February (1st time in like forever) and have never had the flu shot. I'm not anti vax by no means but no pro taking every vaccine out there either. Will be reading more about them for sure.

Hopefully doing all things to protect ourselves that we know to do....hand washing, distancing, mask wearing (N95 for me), nebulizing, eating well, supplements like D and C etc. etc., help those of us that do decide to limit certain vaccines.
I had not had Covid until Feb. 2024 and it happened after three visits to the Mercy Hospital Pulmonary Rehab facility that did not require mask wearing. I was immediately concerned but said to myself, foolishly, surely they know what they are doing. Well they obviously didn't care about all of us with lung problems. I wound up in the hospital ER. It took me 24 to 48 hours to feel absolutely fine and stopped the Paxlovid early, my choice, my risk. P.S. I called two departments including the manager of the pulmonary rehab department and got nothing but 'cover up' excuses that they apparently felt would seem logical to me. I understand from a person that posts on this Mayo that one of the NY Pulmonary Rehab facilities they went to requires mask wearing.
So, beware.....don't fall down as I did when I allowed myself to foolishly believe they knew best, knew what they are doing....in not requiring mask wearing.

I don't know what "excuses" you were given about the masking but with all the screaming about people's rights being infringed upon and the rest of the hoopla about mask wearing I'm not surprised that no one wears a mask even in a medical facility.

Much is up to us in many ways. I should have walked out after my concern of no one wearing a mask. There were four Respiratory Therapists working the facility, non wore masks. Overall, shameful of them.

More-so shameful of those that screamed about their rights being infringed upon and those that enabled them by lack of leadership at the top. Finally tiring those trying to do the right and common sense thing to give in to threats of lawsuits.

I do agree with much of what you said, however, I try not to allow myself to get so caught up in it because it will affect me and my immune system.
Hope you don't do that.....we have to keep ourselves calm, so I will end with this for us.

If the new Covid ( Sep 2025) is available next week, I am getting it. I will get the enhanced flu in October. As I have stated before, I already have all the shingles that are available, RSV, and an updated TDap.
I have an RN friend who works in a hospital ER who tested positive for Covid 19 on Sunday. She is pretty sure she got it from somebody who is employed at the local school district.

Every BE/NTM expert I have heard speak on the subject says to get all the vaccines. Covid, flu, pneumonia, RSV (if available). Many people die annually of these infections. Everyone thinks not them. What distinguishes you from them? And being at heightened risk due to BE/NTM, really ask yourself, why not me? My husband got H1N1 in his 40’s and it was one of the scariest things we have ever been through, he got so incredibly ill. So unexpected. He was young, no risk factors. He had not gotten a flu vaccine, felt they were unnecessary. I assure you neither one of us has skipped the flu shot since. Vaccines save lives. Maybe yours.

Thank you,
I just signed up for the flu shot. I will see about the pneumonia vaccine also. With doing this as you know, at nearly 83, it will be my first time for both and in reality it might give me a little more lee way around people this winter. My doctors will be glad to hear I am "going for it'.
For me, I never did think 'not me' I just wasn't into it, so to speak. With BE and my age in reality, it's time for sure. My sister will be disappointed but at 70 she just had the C Reactive Protein test and several other tests I suggested and no problem found...for that I am thankful.
She has been vegetarian and into vitamin supplements for over 35 years and somewhat, I believe, one of the 'not me' people with regard to avoiding the vaccines. She has helped herself through Covid without medication and other things, minor problems, with her methods and supplements. We all have 'our time' when the unexpected does happen and that somewhat frightens me for her.
Hope you are doing well .......and yes I can imagine the scare 'you all' had with H1N1. That for sure was one of those unexpected diagnosis.
