Thoughts on list for post gastric sleeve diet and supplies?
I’ve been trying to be proactive and prepared so I have picked up the following items for POST op-
Gas X
Stool softener
Miralax
Dulcolax
Benefiber
Imodium
Heating pad
Ice packs
Milk of magnesia
Protein drinks - prepared
Isopure - 3 different flavors in bags
Food scale
2oz cups for drinking all fluids right after surgery
Cream of wheat
Then …. 2 different deodorants since they say we will change our “body smell” SO I got Dove and Secret Clinical
Any other thoughts or items I should have?
Anything NOT good that I picked up already ?
I live in a small town and will be on my own and this is why I have prepped ahead of time.

That is great question. I looked at multiple pre-op diets from google search and they vary differently on juice. From have juice, have diluted juice or no fruit juice.
This would be a good question for your provider or nutritionist.
Do you have access to them via a portal to ask question?

Wanted to check in on how surgery went. The first few weeks after surgery are toughest.
Are you tolerating the liquid diet?

2 ReactionsHi, my surgery took about 5 hours as they had to remove scar tissue, mesh that was stuck to my liver, and staples from a surgery I had about 20 years ago. I did very well and came home with very little pain. I started the blenderized diet and have done very well with it. I still drink 2 or 3 protein shakes a day. I have been able to meet my 80 grams of protein everyday besides the 64 oz of water also. I have lost about 8 pounds since the day of my surgery, a total of 38.6 pounds as of today, Thursday. I haven't been doing any of my exercises yet that I was doing before the surgery. I do walk as much as I can throughout my apartment and outside. I have a heel spur that needs attention when I can have it taken care of so I will be able to go for longer walks. I manage to get close to over 2000 steps in. I am very happy I had the Roux NY, as I am no longer on long acting insulin and only on a sliding scale with my fast acting. Most times I don't have to give myself shots at all. Now to work at getting off my other meds! Happy days!

1 ReactionWonderful Joysmiley64 that you are doing so well! I am almost finished my 8 change classes & probably won’t have the RNY until late Feb or March. I have 2 large hernias that & I, too, have lots of scar tissue. Had bowel obstruction surgery some years ago & ever since hospitalized what seems like every 6 months for another obstruction, so. I expect my surgery might be a bit longer than usual.
God is the Great physician & He has instilled such wisdom & skills in Mayo surgeons & all who help us get ready for this lifelong journey! Keep going, you are doing great!

1 ReactionThank you for sharing your list. I will start getting ready too.
I highly recommend two non-food things for the period of time right after surgery: 1) a small insulated container for soups and broths, especially during cold months. It will take a while to get your sips in after surgery and nobody wants to drink cold soup. 2) a baby spoon and/or a small pickling fork for when semi-solid foods get re-introduced back in to the diet. It keeps bites small and helps with the relentless chewing. Sending you all best wishes for successful surgeries and happy healing.

1 ReactionHi! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. It has been 4 months since my surgery and I am doing well. I have lost a total of 72 pounds since February of this year. I have lost 42 pounds since my surgery. I am currently down 2 pants and 2 shirt sizes and feel so much better. I finally gave away my bigger sweatshirts and donated many pairs of pants to Good Will.
I have had some difficulty meeting the 80grams of protein, but I know I am getting over 60grams for sure. I get plenty of liquids in during the day having water, protein water, protein drinks, diet juices, and broth that I add protein powder to. I have had some trouble with dumping syndrome due to some foods don't agree with me. I have lost my sense of taste for certain foods, and found I cannot eat a lot of bread. I have to cut the crust off and if I have a burger, I can only eat half of it if I eat the bun. I can't eat much of anything with a lot of sugar. Dumping Syndrome!!! I get the runs!
I fell in my living room a couple of weeks ago, and hurt my ribs, after tripping over my dogs doggie steps. Hurt my ribs! Been trying to do some exercises in bed, but I am limited right now until I start feeling better.
I have seen my surgeon as scheduled, and she is very happy with my results. My kidney doctor did put me on Potassium as it was low when I was tested about a week later.

1 ReactionHello, I am post op 8 weeks from gastric bypass, one of the the things driving me crazy is a constant smell in my nose, I can’t describe it but it does not smell good. Has anyone else experienced this? Also any good tips for what to eat at this stage, I am extremely lactose intolerant. I feel like nothing is working for me.
