know any causes of Chronic Nausea?

Posted by socalfriend @socalfriend, Sep 26, 2023

I'm really really seeking any type of insight into unusual or rare causes of chronic nausea. I am a 27yo female and have had chronic moderate-severe nausea daily for going on 10 months with no known cause. I have ruled out pregnancy and GERD, and know that it is not from anxiety (I am a MH professional). It is seriously debilitating and I have seen many specialists that all have coincidentally found something but not the cause of the nausea. The other symptoms I have include headaches, palpitations/PVC's, chronic fatigue, occasional nightsweats, dizziness/chest discomfort when standing up, and just an overall sense of unwellness. In the midst of this search for answers I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's, but dont believe it's the cause for many of these symptoms as the lump in my throat feeling and fatigue have improved a little w/ Hashimotos treatment but most of the symptoms I mentioned previously have only continued to get worse. Does anyone know of any possible causes for the symptoms I have been struggling with, particularly the nausea? Or is anyone familiar with Hashimotos and has had a similar experience of having this intense persistent nausea for months?? I feel like my medial providers aren't thinking outside the box and aren't taking it as seriously as I am to consider potential causes. I feel very desperate as I can feel myself getting sicker. This will sound dramatic but since I have only continued to get sicker over the past 10 months its hard not to wonder if I have some type of serious illness thats just going untreated. Thanks in advance.

I developed an acidic toxic condition from taking NSAIDS . I also was drinking a lot of coffee and tea from a new Keurig. I did not have GERD, just chronic nausea from the acid. Taking a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) for a short time did work, although I do not recommend staying on them for more than a few months due to side effects. Today I still have to watch my diet but the daily nausea is gone.

@llmartin have been on two course of Omeprozole but seemed to make no difference unfortunately. Recently had a nasel endoscopy and dr said I do have acid reflux though. Glad to hear you are feeling better now.

@dogloverinfl I’ve just done a home test kit for Celiac and Gluten intolerance and came up negative. I did also have a food intolerance test 6 months ago which only showed up dairy intolerance and Brazil nuts! So I’m thinking it’s not that. And so the detective work continues…

@falmouthgirl Oh my! Sometimes celiac/gluten intolerant individuals are also dairy and soy intolerant. Food for thought... Sure hope you can figure this out soon. It can be miserable.

@falmouthgirl Interesting that the PPI didn't work. I was on Protonix for 18 months. My nausea was probably a more severe form of reflux. A couple things I forgot to mention, I was immediately tested for H-pylori, which was negative, but an important cause. Also I had post nasal drip going into my stomach and was prescribed something like Flonase which seemed to help. I sure hope you get some answers! Kind regards.

@llmartin great tips and info, thank you so much. I’ll mention Protonix to my doctor -might be worth me trying a different PPI. Have also tested negative to H- pylori. Flonase and nasel drip is new to me - will investigate that for sure. Just this weekend I have started wearing wristband that sends electric pulses through to your Vagal Nerve, these are often used for travel sickness. Seems to be helping a little. Feels like this is one crazy long experiment!
