Is there a supplement that really works?
I was diagnosed 6 years ago with osteoporosis. I thought I was doing everything possible to build bone density but my latest bone density showed it got worse by 6%. I am taking a supplement called ‘bone-up’ which is supposed to be natural and has StimuCal. I’m wondering if there are better supplements out there that really help? Has anyone seen positive bone density results? If so, I would love to know what you are taking and doing. By the way, I’m 65, and try to be fairly active. Thank you.

In my opinion (not a physician), titrating off a medication should always be done with a doctor's guidance to avoid problems.
@gravity3 Oh yes, absolutely. My approach is to learn about solutions and present it to her at my next visit. She is usually very open to my questions and suggestions or explains why it isn't possible. The more info I can gather, the better equipped I am to make a presentation to her. But I totally understand why you would respond as you did. KJ

1 ReactionI see so many that claim to be good. I'm researching myself to find a good supplement. Hopefully someone here can be of help!
There are many collagen supplement products on the market, although the collagen supplement Algecal with Fortibone and Fortigel has been clinically shown to improved Bone Mineral Density. Building bone is a complex process and also requires the addition of calcium and Vitamin D. Many experts also recommend supplementing with Vitamin K, which helps the calcium and other nutrients to bind to the bone matrix. You can search this topic to find discussions on use of Algecal on the Mayo Clinic connect forum. Good Luck!

1 Reaction@gen55 I have only been taking it a little over a month but after a recommendation and being overwhelmed by collagen products on store shelves, I went to a local health food store. An employee recommended Biosil Advanced Collagen Generator. It helps your body make its own collagen. It is manufactured in Belgium, and capsules may be taken in liquid or powder form. The liquid capsules are very tiny. Choline (100mg) is the main ingredient. A 2-sided informational sheet comes with the product. After reading it I contacted the company with a question. I was surprised to get an easy to understand response with a 10 page attachment and linked references, the next day from the customer service manager.
Hair, skin & nails are reported to show changes first. My nails have shown an improvement in strength thus far. Bones take 12 months according to the enclosure.
There is also a liquid product for healthy bones that I have yet to investigate. I would urge you to investigate the product yourself if there is a health food store near you or online to http://www.biosilbeauty. I personally have been prescribed a bisphosphonate which has some serious side effects. I am currently must take a medication which weakens bones so I have been on the Mayo website and others looking for alternatives.
In addition to supplements, I've also changed my diet to include more food based calcium, vitamins D & K, protein, and organic micro greens and less sugar, processed foods, and seldom have alcohol. As I am sure you are aware exercise is imperative to bone health.
I like research but sometimes I would just like a a trusted physician to tell me the name of a great product with no risky side effects. Good luck on your hunt and please post if you find any good leads:~)

3 Reactions@pat9892 great information, I will check out this product!
@pat9892 - seems https://www.biosil.beauty/ sells several similar products--rather confusing. Were you directed to a specific one for the bones?
@pat9892 I wish you great health because you are doing things right!
And sadly - if we had ten trusted physicians in a room, all experts in bone health, they would have different opinions. 🙁 This advocating for our selves takes so much energy.
