Is there a supplement that really works?

Posted by debbik @debbik, Nov 14, 2024

I was diagnosed 6 years ago with osteoporosis. I thought I was doing everything possible to build bone density but my latest bone density showed it got worse by 6%. I am taking a supplement called ‘bone-up’ which is supposed to be natural and has StimuCal. I’m wondering if there are better supplements out there that really help? Has anyone seen positive bone density results? If so, I would love to know what you are taking and doing. By the way, I’m 65, and try to be fairly active. Thank you.

@daisy17 I have to time mine due to AM Levothyroxine… and I’m watching kidney #s so I have to be careful of too much calcium, dairy and protein…D3 seems okay for kidneys..I’m really hoping to be stable for now, as several conditions make standard OP meds problematic for me.

That’s impressive! Can I ask what your t-scores were before you started?

@samantha88 if I understood them id share here. If you want to pm on Facebook I'd be happy to share my last 3 results but it's like I've been given a t score for every area of my back. I'm just going by the summary results of radiologist reading the reports saying I've moved back from osteoporosis to osteopenia and my last test my doc said I showed an improvement. Thank you! After looking at those results, it is a little confusing because they are not showing the typical T scores we see from the dexa Scans. However, the baseline to change in the last measurement shows a significant increase once you started taking the supplements. The year before it looks like you lost a little bit. So it does not seem like a coincidence that you started going in the other direction once you started taking those supplements. Thank you so much for sharing those results! I hope you continue on this path to better bones!

My doctor recommended the REMS and it also gives you your fracture risk. It is much better than a dexascan unless your bone density is tested on the same machine - according to my doctor.

Can you specify what supplements you take?

@osteoresearch I am interested also. I am so afraid of what the osteoporosis docs want me to take. Help!!

I have seen nothing. Try Bioidentical hormone replacement as an option, eat right and walk 2 or 3 times a day.

We have seen positive bone density results from the bone meds. + taking one's DEXA scans on machines with TBS software analysis, which makes results "consistent." Without the TBS software, you have no guaranteed consistency between machines year to year.
