And left side of stomach was repaired with sewing skin to muscle and cleaning up the area then applying two layers of mesch...
Going for my second follow up August 5, see what I am told
And what else to expect. This whole ordeal sucks...I don’t care

Not make us feel this bad and go thru these surgeries...first transplant
Of almost 9 hours is and was enough....and what is with these drug companies they suck too, Charge $2500 for tacrolimus and god
Knows what my sirolimus is !!!! Yes I have Ins. Not to mention
The side effects...where do these drugs come from? The pharmaceutical employees should take these drugs first and count

I see that we have crossed paths on an earlier discussion: Changes after Transplant, where you mentioned your renewed post transplant energy allowed you to read again. Is this when you discovered books about the history of transplant? I would be interested in knowing the titles of some of the books about the history of transplants.

To this surgery, I lost 63 lbs.
Was size large now size 6.did not plan on so much weight loss. Appetite not so great

Gosh, I wish I could lose wt. that easily. Looking and asking for suggestions, concerns, encouragement and personal experiences. I need to lose just 30 lbs. for surgery and I am stuck at 10 after 2 1/2 mos. Dr. has me on high protein, low sugar intermittent 16 hr. fasting and exercise. I do all of it and exercise 2-3 hrs. daily (cycling 20 miles a day). In my head I know all of it is doing something, except not on the scale. Seems more I exercise the bigger this thing gets. I am going to be the healthiest, fittest, immunosuppressed, over weight female in history. However, not a day goes by that I am not grateful for this second chance in life…to live and make a difference.

@melody12, I want to commend you on your dedication to get beyond this weight loss slump. I can imagine that it is frustration for you. But I trust that the health benefits will be in your favor long after your surgery.

Melody, With all of the exercise that you are doing, you are adding muscle mass which has a healthy weight that can offset the numbers on the scale. How is your doctor monitoring your progress?

It is intense and very emotionally affecting. However, I gained an even stronger appreciation for all of the people who played a role in my “transplant journey.”
The Surgeon’s Cut, Episode 3, Living Donor, is another excellent show, available on Netflix - https://www.netflix.com/us/title/81004466. It discusses some of the early groundbreaking transplant surgeries and portrays Dr. Nancy Ascher, the first woman to perform a liver transplant. It also follows a family preparing for a living donation from a daughter to her mother.

You’re certainly doing all the right things! So, hang in there. Remember, everyone’s bodies are different. And, our bodies all adjust differently to our transplant surgery and our meds. And, healthy eating and exercise, at least to the ability one can, is the best practice for our bodies.
After surgery I was in the hospital on a dreadful feeding tube for a month and a week, and then sent home with it! I wasn’t getting enough protein and struggled to gain weight. And, still haven’t gone back to my pretransplant weight. But, at least my liver doctor doesn’t tell me I’m malnourished anymore!
