We cannot over imbibe because then we have to go get more wine and then there will be a shortage and then there will be limits placed on the amount you can buy. As one who has vinophobia ( fear of running out of wine) ,I’m telling you to abide by the rules and behave! 🤨

@imallears I had about 76 bottles of wine in my collection when I was diagnosed and told I had to totally abstain from alcohol. Many of those were gift wines there were pricier than wines I bought for myself so I was saving them for a special day. I learned never to do that. Every day is special. I missed out but a lot of my friends and some family were the benefactors of great wine. I had many whites, Spanish reds, zins, some prestige pinot noirs from a winery in CA, and some sparkling. My husband drinks almost nothing but Cabernet so he did not care for them. 😭
I generally had one glass of wine with dinner. I miss that.
Oh wow, I would have been a very friendly neighbor when you had that collection. I prefer Cabs also along with Reds from Spain and Pinot Grigio…..don’t like sparkling , zins , Chardonnay or anything sweet. Have you tried the non alcoholic wine or is that off limits too? Yeah I would miss wine with dinner and it’s a very social drink.
@contentandwell I sure do miss my one glass a day with dinner, too! My favorite was Pinot Grigio. We keep saying, "After the pandemic", for a lovely restaurant meal with wine and friends or family. Aaahhh!
@contentandwell I had a good nonalcoholic wine the other day It was Sangria I love the different fruit flavors in it
I like regular sangria once in a while but prefer to make it at home. There are a lot of non alcoholic red and white wines around although I haven’t tasted them. But believe me, if I couldn’t drink regular wine I would be sampling what’s out there. I know I have seen the beer on menus but never noticed the wines. I will check next time we are in a restaurant and also see what they are charging for it.
Thanks, @lioness I have never been a fan of sangria but I suppose without wine it's more like a fruit punch. Since it also probably has a lot of sugar/calories, I'll stick with water and Hint.
@imallears I did buy a bottle of non-alcoholic once at the holidays and I just decided it wasn't worth the bother over just drinking water!
I never cared for Pinot Grigio, too much like water, but there are some good zins I think. I also do not like sweet wines, except for some really nice dessert wines like Hungarian Tokaji Aszu. If you haven't tried it you should and make sure you get one with at least 5 Puttonyos. I was introduced to it when I was a manager at the beautiful Inn in my town, The Bedford Village Inn. It has one of the best wine lists in NH. The Spanish reds were my favorite reds. The one I used to purchase was from a winery that had two versions. I would watch the NH state liquor ads and when the better one went on sale I would always grab a few bottles.
I really miss the whole wine culture and going to wine country. Our next trip to Italy was going to include Tuscany but that's not to be.
@artist01 Although I don't care for pinot grigio now, it was really my introduction back to drinking wine. I gave up alcohol when I was pregnant and never resumed until the kids were out of the house. As I used to say, I couldn't afford to be mellow with them around. One white I loved was the little known Italian Arneis. It's a difficult grape to grow though so it can be difficult to find. If you see it on a restaurant menu give it a try.
@contentandwell, What you wrote is so true! While my s-i-l swears they didn't buy their new home because of the actual temp controlled wine cellar and I'm well satisfied with the Beringer White Zinfandel they keep on hand just for my visits, I know the feeling of "missing out" by gifting your 76 wines to others when you had to abstain.
It was somewhat the same for me when I discovered that I was highly allergic to wood smoke. It didn't take long to share my still-waiting-in-the wings cord of firewood after posting on my neighbor page that I had some free for the taking. I still yearn for the smell of the wood fires and yearn for the smells of pinon pine particularly.
From that experience I learned to not delay when finding a special plant because tomorrow it might not be available. Now I don't wait or save things for special occasions. Heck! At my age, I might not be around later so why not enjoy those wonderful finds right now???
If Pinot Grigio tasted like water than it was not a good brand. I have had watery pinots. There are many cheap watery blah sweet pinots out there. For a good Pinot Grigio or Gris you should be able to feel it on your tongue and it should have a decent amount of acidity. There…I have defended my favorite white wine. Although I don’t like sweet wines, I would try the Hungarian essert wine.
