Heart Rhythm Conditions – Welcome to the group

Welcome to the Heart Rhythm Conditions group on Mayo Clinic Connect.
Did you know that the average heart beats 100,000 times a day? Millions of people live with heart rhythm problems (heart arrhythmias) which occur when the electrical impulses that coordinate heartbeats don't work properly. Let's connect with each other; we can share stories and learn about coping with the challenges, and living well with abnormal heart rhythms. I invite you to follow the group. I wish I had profound answers for a reply, but I don’t. I just went off a 30 day event monitor which also picked up some a fib. I will reiterate by saying I have had pvc’s for so many years & different medications. The advice I recently got from my cardiologist was try to relax, easier said then done, take up yoga & meditation. The pvc’s can become very consuming at times. However, I find this site to be very comforting to know many of us have similar issues.

Hi, I am Karen. I think I have posted here before. I am 68 with a-fib diagnosed four years ago and now have PVCs which are becoming very uncomfortable, causing shortness of breath and dizziness. Have had monitor for two weeks now and will be getting results in a couple of weeks.

O started having atrial fibrillation after spending many nights in the hosp. For gout. Could there be a connection?

What type of magnesium do you take?

I have had irregular heartbeat on and off since i was in my late 20's. Iam now in my 70's and they have become much worse. I have had several 24 hour halter monitors. So far i have been told i have SVT, premature heartbeats etc. My last 24 hour monitor showed 500 events. The doctor just blew it off. I sometimes find that a walk stops the irregularity. I take propanolol for it.

I'm curious. Do you have a dysautonomia? Curious about the adrenaline rushes. Do you have a connective tissue disease?

I am going to my health food store to ask them. I am presently taking magnesium chelate. I heard magnesium chloride is better

My friend’s homeopathic doctor suggests that magnesium oil (magnesium chloride) foot baths raise magnesium levels at the cellular level and is therefore best for arrhythmia, whereas magnesium citrate (Natural Calm, a powder mixed with water) is for digestion. I do foot baths and also take Natural Calm. I have also read that magnesium chelate tablets are supposedly easier on the digestion. Not positive if all of this works but worth a try.

No I don’t have connective tissue disease. Adrenalin seems to go with the increased heart rate and stress though!

It’s amazing when I read how so many have the same symptoms nation wide, but for some reason the medical field with all of the technology out there doesn’t have any answers.
You would think with ECG, Holters, Echo, Stress Test, on and on would give the doctors direction on how to treat our symptoms. I have done all of the above test numerous times, just to be told nothing abnormal and my heart is healthy.
My cardiologist did do an angioplasty in 2016. He told my husband he didn’t expect to find anything. I had 80% blockage in two arteries. He did inset 2 stents. But it didn’t take care of the episodes and blacking out at times. I don’t want anything to be wrong, I just want answers.
Maybe if several doctors experienced the symptoms and frustration that goes with it, we might be taken more serious. It doesn’t help when we are basically brushed off time and time again.

Exactly! I couldn’t agree more.
