@connieording

Did long covid cause the cancer and fibrosis in your lungs? I ask because they just found spots on my lungs. Do you know ow if this has happened to others? SCAREY ALL OF IT!!!!!

I have multifocal lung cancer (multiple cancerous nodules in my lungs-a chronic situation) which was diagnosed in Dec 2021 - I had my first case of Covid 2/1/2022 one month after first lung surgery - despite my isolation to avoid Covid. Thankfully I was vaccinated, and I had a mild case, just a congested cough which went away with antiviral treatment. So no, Covid did not cause my cancer. Research lung nodules, they are common and can be many things.
I caught Covid a second time in August 2022 with barely any symptoms.
As information comes in, it would appear that catching Covid multiple times is not good as one can have various health issues down the road. And people with long Covid are having a bad time.

It first started two weeks after getting over covid. My stomach ballooned up and then about two weeks after that I had awful stomach pain and could not tolerate anything in my stomach, even water was hard on it. I had an upper GI scope and two lower GI scopes and both showed nothing. I tested negative for H.Pylori too or any other bacteria for that matter. I DID have a HYROGEN breath test and was POSITIVE for that. I was treated with XIFAXAN oral antibiotic for one month twice per day and that helped me be able to eat again. I had lost 25 pounds and I was 121 pounds to start. At 5'7 I was down to an all time low of 98.6 lbs at one point. I currently am still bloated after I eat anything and I look 4 months pregnant by the end of the day but I now weigh 104 lbs. My body tremors and I have zaps or vibrations in my legs and torso and I feel very irritable all the time. When I am not tremoring I am not irritable though. I am very sensitive to light and sound. I seems to sweat just before awakening every day but I do NOT sweat during the night at all. MY TRYPTASE blood levels are over the norm and now the IMMUNOLOGIST I am seeing wants a bone biopsy to rule out systemic mastocytosis post covid. ALL OF MY TEETH also feel like I have bitten down on a cold ice cream blob but the dentist I saw said there is nothing he can see to cause this. No leaking fillings or anything. I have seen over ten specialists in the last year. no one other than a FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE DR has even tried to help me in a timely manner. They put me on MAST CELL STABILIZING MEDS and non steroidal anti-inflammatories because if THIS IS MAST CELL DISEASE post covid, then NSAIDS are the worst thing you can put in your body. SO I am on LOW DOSE NALTREXONE 4.5 mg ( was titrated up to that dose) every night. I am also on KETOTIFEN 1 mg every 12 hours along with an over the counter anti-histamine ( NOT BENADRYL!) I am also being ruled out for LYME DISEASE POST COVID because a strong virus can bring out smoldering lyme disease...many have it and live with it until something strong brings it out. In terms of other long covid symptoms...my legs feel weak even though strength tests prove otherwise and I feel brain fog and dizzy on and off. I have constant upper quadrant pain that feels like a rib is digging in to me and have had MRI's(2) of the abdomen and a HIDA scan to make sure my gall bladder and pancreas and liver, spleen were all ok and they all were. I was in excellent health prior to covid and never took any meds. not even a vitamin because I ate right and all my blood work was always perfect as were my heart rate and blood pressure. I also had feeling of pins and needles in my back and burning down my left arm. My spinal and brain MRI showed nothing to cause that. I was even ruled out for Multiple Sclerosis and other neurodegenerative disorders. I have had over 30 needle pokes and also had a spinal tap and the only thing that keeps showing up as abnormal are my TRYPTASE blood levels. They keep climbing as time passes. I am on a low histamine diet for that (PHASE I) There are several phases. My husband is an angel helping with my share of the house chores. I lose stamina easily too these days but prior to getting covid I was working at a horse barn lifting heavy things and riding horses on a drill team with kids who were 40 years younger than I. I also had a K.I.T test that Immunology ordered and that came back normal which is reassuring but the test has a small margin of error so that is why they want the bone marrow biopsy to rule our systemic mastocytosis. I am a retired RN who worked 36 years bedside and never felt like I ever had an energy issue. Now I feel so decompensated since covid.

Did you get the vaccine as well?

REPLY

I got the Pfizer Covid vax last week. Arm was sore for a day. Nothing else has happened.

I did not get any other vax at that time.

I have an autoimmune disease. I'm glad I got the vax.

I found soaking in a hot bath helped with sore arm.
Me too, I am happy I now have all my vaccines. People with lung cancer go bonkers at having other respiratory problems!!!!
Besides latest Covid vaccine, I got my RSV and flu shots as well. And after seeing a picture of a friend with shingles over her only good eye, I went out and got that vaccine too!!! So I am up to date on all that medical science offers me. Whatever the risk in any vaccine, the risk of the disease is far worse for me!!! I did keep my vaccines spaced apart. And be sure to keep track of which arm the vaccine goes into because if one does something like a PET scan, they will ask that - it impacts lymph nodes, so they want to know in analyzing scan. Same thing when having mammogram.

I have been dealing with long covid for over two years. I have had the latest covid booster. I also got prevnar 20 for pneumonia. My lung specialist has not advised me to take RSV vax.

I have LC with some significant lingering issues including phlegm in throat, tingling in hands andvfeet, smell and taste disorder, since Sept 2023. After my neurologist gave me the clear, I got the covid booster first and a week later the flu vaccine. I felt no ill effects and returned the next day to get the RSV vaccine. I’m really glad I did, because I’m pretty sure I have RSV right now. It’s kicking my butt today. I worked from home, but felt really crappy. I have all the symptoms such as dry cough, sneezing, runny nose, fatigue, etc. My dad also has it and my mom is now recovering. I thought I was improving last night, but today it has grown worse. Ugh….I can’t imagine the severity if I didn’t have the vaccine on board. With Type 1 diabetes, I get vaccines if available. They have saved my life. And,

Oh, this most recent covid vaccine made me a little uncomfortable that night, but nothing too bad. I have had some improvement in some of my LC symptoms, but not of my taste issue, though smell issue and tingling are better.

I have read, and I was told by my PCP and Pharmacist, that you should not get the Covid booster, flu shot, etc., as long as you are experiencing LT Covid symptoms, and/or flu-like symptoms, so I don't know when I will ever be able to get my boosters/shots! LOL! But, seriously, this is what I was told. I am still taking that in, thinking about it, and considering what I will do. Ayone else?

In addition to continuing to battle long COVID (I got COVID in March 2020), I also have a primary immunodeficiency. My immunologist strongly recommended both the updated COVID vaccine and also that I get the RSV vaccine. After having gotten the mRNA COVID vaccines previously, I went with Novavax for the updated version, and was pleasantly surprised to suffer NO adverse events, unlike with the mRNAs. I ran a fever for about a day and a half following the RSV vaccine, but no other ill effects. Neither vaccine affected my long COVID either positively or negatively.

I got the flu vaccine without consequences. My internist said to wait on the booster and RSV given the severity of my post-Covid symptoms. Just one data point. 🙂
