Fodmap Eating Plan
I will be starting on the fodmap eating plan next week and I'm looking for some suggestions about following this plan for the first four weeks. Did you have the guidance of a dietician? Did you find any books, recipes, YouTube videos that helped you? I'm also wondering how you went about the addition of foods after the four-week restricted period?
Any success stories (I'd really like to hear them). Anything that was particularly helpful or difficult for you?

Wow you're speaking to the choir. I just had to stop my Livalo the only statin that I thought my body could tolerate. I think I've tried them all. Either bad muscle pain or diarrhea. I just stopped again because even though no muscle pain the diarrhea is back. I have IBS-D and have been gluten free for 15 years and watch everything I eat carefully. If I can't tolerate regular statins my cardiologist is going to put me on the new injectables which aren't supposed to have as many side effects. But they are very expensive and she will have to jump through hoops to get medicare to cover it.
Hi all, I wanted to share this with everyone and I hope you all share it with others. The International Foundation for GI is presenting an Overview of GI symptoms and it will be covering a number of topics GI topics regarding GERD, Unintentional weight loss, nausea, FODMAP, diarrhea/constipation, etc. Below is the link

I started with Cryptosporidium parasite Sept25-> anamia -> raging c-diff -> hospital 11 days 11/25- diagnosed with pancolitis -> UTI 3 = diff antibiotics, and i believe my 2nd bout of c-diff started yesterday. I see gastro at mayo az friday because I have no gastro support from Dr in my small town as he does not take my insurance. Infectious disease dr is through video as he is in ny but he told me to start fodmap. No instruction, no dietician, no support whatsoever.
I just started elimination fodmap diet yesterday after buying a book that explained how to do it. Funny, same day cdiff comes back.
I have SIBO and the medical community has been of little help to me. I pretty much follow a low FODMAP diet to keep my symptoms under control. I am forced to eat a pretty bland diet as garlic and onions both bother me.
I also had taken Prilosec for years and only recently learned that it is linked to SIBO. I am off it completely.

1 ReactionMore… I’m trying to find a probiotic that helps with SIBO . Any recommendations?
@hallward I too have used the FODMAP diet to figure out which foods cause problems. I believe I had undiagnosed SIBO.
Lactose free plain yogurt seems to be a good probiotic for me. I buy Fage brand. I eat it mostly with warm blueberries (microwaved frozen or fresh).
Garlic and onion cause me problems - and so many recipes and sauces have them. It’s difficult to find flavorful authentic flavors on the FODMAP diet. I found RAO brand italian sauce is good, recommended by Ina Garten as a substitute for her homemade sauce. “Rao's Sensitive Sauce is a marinara sauce specifically made without onions or garlic, ideal for those with digestive issues, low-FODMAP diets, or sensitivities to alliums, and offers a smooth, traditional Italian flavor without common triggers.”

There isn't a lot of info out there about SIBO. I did have the test so know I have it. It is really hard to find flavorful food when you can't tolerate garlic or onion but I do use the green part of scallions for a little onion flavor. Also there are sites where you can purchase low fodmap food that do add flavor. I use Sain n Sanity's Garlic Parmesan. There is no garlic in it but somehow it does replicate the flavor of garlic. What a pain this condition is. I believe my overuse of Prylosec contributed to my having it.

2 ReactionsMy SIBO experience is a recurring nightmare. I have had two positive breath tests and have treated with antibiotics on 4 different occasions. My last breath test was a Trio-Smart test which showed methane overgrowth, which explained why I responded better to a round of two antibiotics at a time vs. just Rifaximin.
I tried Low FODMAP and it didn't do much to help the gut stuff I didn't identify anything particular that caused issues, and it also didn't reduce my symptoms. I did feel that it was leading me into an eating disorder and obsessive label checking.
The Trio Smart test is from Gemelli Biotech and they have webinars with Dr. Pimentel, a doctor doing extensive research on IBS, SIBO and IMO. I have attended several and find them very informative. Also there is a book called the Microbiome Connection by Dr. Mark Pimentel and Dr. Ali Rezaie which I found to be a good resource also. They recommend a low fermentation diet-not as restrictive as the low FODMAP and one in which you can go to a restaurant and still find something you can have.
I still struggle with gut problems and unfortunately a lot of GI providers don't know about or don't believe in SIBO so I've found I do a lot of research and then discuss it with my providers. It's exhausting and frustrating. Good luck on your journey!

I haven't used store bought salad dressing for 2 years because of ingredients. I usually resort to oil and vinegar at restaurants. My stomach seems to like the apple cider vinegar i use in homemade dressing. Im a bit lazy, so i make a “coleslaw” type dressing (mayo, ACVinegar, little cane sugar) and use it on everything.
@sm80 frustrating at best, similar SIBO with additional issues that will in reality never be resolved.
My personal food map has been scrambled eggs, 4 times a day. I have grown to enjoy black and cayenne pepper for flavor.
