Fatigue every afternoon - How can I get more energy?

Posted by jmorris58 @jmorris58, Dec 18, 2022

I am 75 and am very tired every afternoon. I need a two hour nap. My blood work is good. Any comments that can help me get more energy?

I suffer from fatigue pretty much every afternoon as well! My oncologist prescribed a drug called modafinil. It is a mild stimulant that I can take in the afternoons around three or 4 o’clock and it gives me better alertness for a couple of hours, at least. I’ve even found that as little as 1/4-1/2 a tablet works in the event the whole tablet causes “butterflies” or something like that.

Maybe adrenal fatigue? Your cortisol levels too high? That really affects sleep.

Unless caffeine is prohibited a cup of tea that has caffeine will boost your energy and cost less.

Kind of hard to convince myself to do it, but I press myself on to go for a short half-mile walk or a similar distance bicycle ride. If you can do so, the result is uplifting.

I just had a sleep study done last night. I was absolutely floored to learn that I have sleep apnea! I stop breathing multiple times all night long. You really might want to ask your doctor about this. Believe me, there's no way to tell other than feeling tired/sleepy a lot.
Wishing you the best!

I started using MCT oil. Made from coconuts. I use one tablespoon in morning with coffee. Has really been helpful in supplying energy all day. Something to explore for others. Also my Dr advised I use Acetyl-l-carnitine twice a day for energy. He said he uses it too.

I have chronic fatigue. When I have the urge to lay down I try to find something to do, like take a short walk or do a household chore. That tends to focus my mind elsewhere, off the fatigue. I find it helps.

I have fatigue that comes with Fibromyalgia and poor sleep. I’m trying SAMe Rt now but it will take 6-8 wks to take noticeable effect. I just got info today from Dr Hyman that NAD supplement helps the body produce more energy. But with Fibro, powerful supplements are not tolerated well. I can’t speak for Chronic fatigue Syndrome. But for ppl who don’t have these problems, NAD should be tolerated well. Start low and wk up to recommended dose.

I do not know what NAD is. I think I should know. I googled it with no results. Also, what is SAMe Rt? I should probably know what these are as I too have sleep problems. I do not take anything for it. I am gradually changing my diet in hopes this works.

It's okay to take a nap.... I find a 30-minute one is ideal. I wake up refreshed !
