Earring hole ripped, sore, won't heal

Three months ago I wrestled on the floor with my two boys, ages 11 and 12, on my in-laws’ living room floor. We had great fun and lots of laughs. Only problem was I forgot to remove my hoop earrings. I suddenly felt one of them rip a bit and jumped up to take them off.

I did the same thing afterward that I’ve done when one of my earring holes has been stressed at other times in my life – wore earrings less, wore my tiny studs, etc., expecting it to heal. Only problem is that it’s not healed. I still have soreness in one earring hole right now with no earrings in, and when I’ve worn even light hoops or the like, I don’t last long at all and then I’m pulling them out. I usually wear some kind of hoop or dangle earring daily.

I honestly wasn’t sure where medicine came in with this kind of thing, since wearing earrings is aesthetic and earring holes are initially done by a jewelry store, in most cases. I do have an appointment tomorrow in primary care to look at it. Feels a little silly, but not sure how to get this to heal.

I don't have pierced ears so I can't be of help.

You are doing the right thing by going to a doctor. Even a small infection can do much damage. Smart woman.

I ended up going to the doctor for pain from the August rip in my earring hole, and I don't have an infection. Evidently you can do cartilage damage, though, so I have to wear small earrings only if really wanted to go out this next month (mostly no earrings) and put cortisone on my ear lobe every night.

Wondering if @contentandwell @elizabethzimmermann @annedodrill44 @veeme @lioness may have experienced a rip in an earring hole before? If so, how did you get it to heal?

@lisalucier OUCH! Thankfully I never have had a rip in my pierced hole. Just thinking of it ripping makes me feel queasy. I did use cortisone on my earrings for a while because for some odd reason I developed an allergy to the metal in them. It wasn't the gold but one of the alloys that they mix with it, probably nickel. If you do put earrings in I suggest you stick the post into the tube of cortisone or rub some on the post too.
