Continued Post-Nasal Drip and Constant Mucus in Throat

Posted by adominic @adominic, Mar 22, 2022

I was sick the last week or January/first week of February. Home Test-negative, rapid PCR-negative. All COVID symptoms and known prolonged exposure to infected individuals make me believe it was COVID. Since then, I have had a tremendously hard time dealing with post-nasal drip and mucus collecting in my throat. It is clear, sticky and almost impossible to remove from throat by coughing or clearing my throat. Flonase does nothing, allergy pills do nothing. Had anyone else had an issue like this post COVID? How long did it last? What did you do to cope? Small problem in comparison to others that post here, I realize.

I had problematic post-nasal drip with mucus collecting in my throat & my COVID-19 tests were negative too. The only thing that worked for me was regular nasal rinses plus gargling with warm salt water. I took me a year to get up the courage to do nasal rinsing. I did it out of desperation and lo and behold it worked. Once I became proficient at it, it was no big deal after all.

A sibling recommended adding lemon juice to the daily water I drunk. A dental specialist had recommended adding lemon juice to her following a dental procedure, to cut down bacteria. I followed this advice too. This sibling uses a infrared sauna mounted in her closet to keep her sinus passages open. I have heard these should not be used with cardiac issues however.

I have been coughing for 4 years. This started after Covid. It comes and stays for a month, goes away for about 2 1/2 weeks, and come back. I've been to cardiology, asthma and allergy, PCP, pulmonary and gastro. I've taken, Mucinex, Albuterol, Trelegy, Budesonide, Zyrtec, Allegra, Xyzal, and Pantoprazole..... NOTHING! I've had chest x-rays, a battery of pulmonary testing, allergy testing, nothing.... Post nasal drip is HORRENDOUS! I do nasal rinses in the morning and at night. I've used Azelastine and Flonase...nothing. I can't sleep laying down any more, I have to sleep propped up. I sleep on a cpap that is cleaned daily and replacements are monthly. I had my airducts cleaned, I've pulled up the carpet in my home, nothing stops it. I'm at my wits end. I NEED HELP!

Review: Currently, 71 years old, male. Mild COVID March 2020. Feb 2021, leg neuropathy causing weakness and pain, some brain fog, GI issues, epigastric pain, skin reactivity causing infections requiring antibiotics from simple bug bites AND the feeling that something was in the back of my throat, causing me to constantly clear my throat. Scoped at the ENT, "No growths, drink more fluids, try Mucinex" Made no difference. March 2021, stopped all Gluten. Within a month, all symptoms improved and throat mucus disspiated. Why? Opinion: COVID creates an inflammatory response including histamine release. The histamine is responsible for producing copious, thick mucus. Gluten was responsible (in my situation) for the histamine response. I also eliminated processed meat at the same time.

I posted some time back about this. My wife has been using Thyme to help with the drainage. She uses 1/4 of a teaspoon and places it under her tongue, letting it desolve for a short time then chewing and swallowing the remainder. It is not a cure but she says it does provide her with relief for a while. This may not work for you but it is a simple thing to try. Good Luck.

I have postnasal drip and cough from Covid, but even more recently from a two-week upper respiratory virus. After going through bags of cough drops, my son suggested this: put 2-3 drops of peppermint oil under your tongue; add some water, then swish and spit it. It helps for several hours.

@jimthescientist Agree...mine is the same. Post COVID, I am now allergic to gluten, dairy, beer/red wine, and sugar. If I choose to eat foods with these ingredients, I have a massive allergic reaction including watery eyes, stuffy nose, nasal discharge, coughing and rashes. It is pretty hard to stay away from all of the food sources but if I do, all of the symptoms go away including the mucous. I do have a cheat day a few times a month and know I will feel like garbage later but it is worth it to have foods I love.

@roshonda1977 Mucous was a huge clue that my immune system was attempting to expel the cellular waste but it was not functioning normally. Twice a month explosions of thick yellow mucus drainage made it obvious the 'transporters of waste' seriously dysfunctional. I'd never had a sinus issue in my lifetime. The origins: my Sphenoid sinus cavity was clogged and inflamed which is the natural drain for the brain. And, the yellow ooze was draining to my stomach and impacted by gut health. I had micro surgery for the sinus cavities and I am now on program for rebuilding gut health naturally. After 6 moths, blood work discovered a cycle for T-Cell dysfunction, where the T-Cells after 3 years were in overdrive to fight spike protein pieces that had not been cleared by my body (test strips of the yellow ooze were positive for Covid) so my immune system was sending massive spike anti-body fighters. The T-Cell CD4 messages that spike protein invaders were present had been in overdrive sending messages to the T-Cell CD8 killer and transporters of waste. These CD8 fighters total count was very low and the killers and transporters were compromised. After 3 years of 'specialists' to find answers to my 'symptoms', the why and what for my symptoms has come down to the spike protein causing my Long Covid.

See if there is a doctor in your area that specializes in treatment protocols to purge this spike protein and the smaller pieces of the spike protein which remain after the anti-bodies blow up the Spike protein. I started by 'calling' offices to discuss my research discovery.

Is there a bottom line for what caused this? Per The National Health Institute detailed reports (Strategies for the Management of Spike Protein): Spike proteins negatively impact human exosomes, communicators and transporters of cellular waste. Because the exosomes transfer DNA, RNA, and proteins to other cells, thereby altering the function of the target cells, if they are dysfunctional, removal of covid waste is in jeopardy. Covid remnants have been found hiding in 'fat' cells throughout the body by 2 California experts in Long Covid. I had hoped the state Infectious Disease Experts would take this on, however, my referral was rejected. I looked for an expert in Immunology (normally in an Allergy Clinic), they did not take on patients with Long Covid. I'll keep digging...

@vostie yes. I never had problem with gluten. Now that is another thing I can’t eat. But , Sour dough bread is fine, no problem. With that. Also, very healthy is a bread called Ezekiel . It does have gluten, but it does not have any flour and is delicious toated. If I’m too lazy, I eat it without toasting

@kyrazpollet I have also had good luck with spelt bread which does not contain wheat.
