Continued Post-Nasal Drip and Constant Mucus in Throat

Posted by adominic @adominic, Mar 22, 2022

I was sick the last week or January/first week of February. Home Test-negative, rapid PCR-negative. All COVID symptoms and known prolonged exposure to infected individuals make me believe it was COVID. Since then, I have had a tremendously hard time dealing with post-nasal drip and mucus collecting in my throat. It is clear, sticky and almost impossible to remove from throat by coughing or clearing my throat. Flonase does nothing, allergy pills do nothing. Had anyone else had an issue like this post COVID? How long did it last? What did you do to cope? Small problem in comparison to others that post here, I realize.

When covid started I wonder if this sticky mucus was the reason so many people died with pneumonia. Are government tells us nothing ,everything is a fu_____ mystery.

I was thinking the same thing.

I also wonder if this contributed to the difficulty in breathing

wood glue is what i think the sticky mucus looks like, it's been over 3 yrs dealing with it, i had a nurse say "why don't you just swallow it"...i said i wish i could, the stuff does not move, it just keeps building...hang in there, i know what it feels like..it's crappy!

I had covid in April 2021 and have had constant post nasal drip. My doctor and ENT recommended a low inflammation diet. It's helped some but it's still there. I also seem proned to infections so I took it upon myself to do nasal irrigations everyday and I also gargle with warm salt water. This has helped in that I don't get infections but I still have post nasal drip. Unfortunately this hasn't helped with regaining my smell and taste.

Have you tried low histamine diet? It helped me.

If you don't mind, can you expand on what comprises a low histamine diet or a link to information online thar you found helpful? I have a handful of garden variety allergies which seem to be acting up much worse this year so it might be something that I should explore. Thanks.

I have very similar symptoms. I have tried everything but nothing works. I am seriously considering buying Iqoro. It helps by exercising the muscles along the respiratory tract

So, day 5 of nasal rinsing with xylitol/baking soda/salt mixture, as advised by my ENT since xylitol is known to break down biofilm. 3 days ago after the rinse a huge thick mucus glob was dislodged from deep inside my nose/sinuses. The day after another one came out (they come out by hacking them into my throat because they're too big to fit through my nose, but you can feel something coming down after the rinse). It felt so good afterwards and since then my nose is actually running like crazy. No thick, sticky post nasal drip all of a sudden, but everything is coming out at the front like it should. It's crazy to be so happy with having a cold, or at least it feels like that. The rinse made everything move, that's for sure. In case you haven't tried the xylitol rinse, give it a try! Starting to think that these globs of mucus (or maybe there are more to come) were stuck somewhere and prevented/blocked normal mucus draining. It's too early to get my hopes up that this is the end of the PND horror, but who knows. Every day stuff keeps coming out. My post nasal drip started after Covid 15 months ago, so maybe covid gave me a sinus infection. Actually staphylococcus aureus was also found, heard that last week after testing the mucus via a swab. So I'm on antibiotics as well now, but the rinse definitely did the trick since I started that earlier than the antibiotics. Good luck!! See attachment for the premixed sachets I use for the rinse. Hope some of you will find relief!

Where do I get the nose wash stuff for mucous. Mine is clear and I was using saline salt wash combo. I had covid 2nd time(first march2020) then March 2023 with cough. Now no cough but mucous. I have RA but perfect blood work. Dr. Wants me on Embrel . But so expensive. Trying for getting for free from manufacturer. Help!

Dr. Wants me on Embrel in addition to methotrexate and Plaquenil and Prednisone ( trying to get off) my MRI shows aggressive RA eating into cartilage in wrists. Doc wants me on Embrel but I am on SS and live alone and 74. Trying to get Embrel for free but we will see. Even discounted very expensive. Also have to inject myself when I get it. All happening so fast. if I get who can inject me? How can I get for almost free?
