Celiac Artery Aneurysm: Anyone else with same illness?
Hello! I was recently diagnosis with a celiac artery aneurysm in June 2016. I underwent a embolization w/ coils procedure since the aneurysm had grown while in the hospital. I was trying to reach out to someone who suffered the same illness but have not been lucky. I would like to locate someone with my same illness. I would appreciate any help. Thank you

I was recently diagnosed with a 4.6 ascending thoracic aneurysm and an additional aneurysm was found in the celiac artery measuring 1.2 cm. My cardiologist at MGH believes that suggests a congenital vasculopathy. I will keep you informed. Presently, my surgery for the triple A is awaiting a re-examine in December. No action on the celiac aneurysm was recommended at this time.
@andytheman update:
I had my cardiovascular surgeon appointment last week in October and he did a complete aortic artery sonogram and he said the aneurysm grew a little bit and it’s now 3.9. He’s doing another sonogram next month but he didn’t mention that the aneurysm grew, the radiologist did and she was the one to tell me it’s 3.9 with a tear in it probably why it’s being done next month again with a follow up on December 3rd. Maybe he’s decided to put a stent to hold it together. I’m concerned because I’m on a blood thinner for my mechanical aortic valve so I could bleed easily if my blood gets too thin. It could burst and then I’m in danger.
Yes, I have been diagnosed with a celiac aneurysm. I'm wondering if people have an opinion of where the best care in America is for this? Does it make a difference? Is it Mayo or Cleveland?
Hello I have a celiac artery aneurysm related to dissection. Advise searching this site with those keywords to see others posts mine included. Keep in mind there are different types of aneurysms which dictate different care. I am being followed yearly with Doppler ultrasound after initial baseline evaluation with ct angiogram. My advice is to ensure you are being followed at a large academic tertiary care hospital as they see more of these unusual cases due to referrals. I am being followed at northwestern university in Chicago. The initial community hospital surgeon wanted to do surgery!! And it is complicated and can lead to other issues so get an expert.
@mjpisa Thank you, I appreciate your reply.
Mine was described thus: Focal dissection at the proximal celiac artery with a 1.4 x 0.8 cm left-sided saccular aneurysm
My local vascular specialist has recommended quarterly ultrasounds. He advocates for a stent when and if it reaches 2+. Another specialist I saw suggested surgery if and when it reaches 2+.
I have a younger wife and son for whom I particularly would like to be around for so want a third opinion, both in terms of managing the situation and choice of intervention should it grow. My findings so far looking at the small amount of research available seems to suggest that it most likely won't grow and if it does a stent should be fine. Of course as I'm sure you know this is not an easy stent to place and for that reason I'm keen to have the best in the business on the other end of the knife...
Until then I'm watching the blood pressure, exercising (but not too much!) and limiting other various bad habits.
I would be grateful for any other input you may have. FYI I'm in CT, the best we have in state is Yale New Haven, rated "high performing". I'm still hoping to gain some insight from this sit as to whether Mayo or Cleveland is better for my situation. Do you have a sense of how I could work that out?
@williampullen I am interested in your Doctor at Yale New Haven also . Have you met with him yet or has he just been recommended? Thank you
Hello, I dont have much more input, sorry. My celiac aneurysm is fusiform with(vessel is dilated) not saccular. It is my understanding that they are treated differently. Think my condition was related to bad cholecystitis and gallstone pancreatitis. I had inflammation, though mild around this vessel on theCT scan. Probably weakened it.
As far as which hospital, check us news and world for ratings for cardiovascular care, seems that cleveland is #3 and Mayo #4. two other NY hospitals are 1 and 2. Best wishes
@camb40
I have not been given a recommendation for a specific doctor yet. I've met with no one there yet. Not even researched it much. Sorry not to be more helpful.
@mjpisa
Thank you. Which are the 1 and 2?
