Hi @merrychristmas !
I don't think we've connected yet—it's nice to meet you!
I also have temporal lobe epilepsy. From my own experience, I only have difficulty speaking during a seizure and in the post-ictal phase.
Are you experiencing apraxia of speech all the time or only at certain times? I understand you are currently completely seizure-free. Is that right?
And if you're comfortable sharing, what medications are you currently taking?
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Chris
@merrychristmas
This is wonderful news that Lamictal is keeping you seizure-free!
As far as I know, Lamictal does not cause apraxia of speech. but can cause aphasia/dysphasia. Some people report word-finding difficulties, stuttering, or needing to slow down their speech.
Have you talked with your doctor about the speech difficulties you're experiencing? Also, are you taking any other medications alongside Lamictal?
Chris
Thank you for sharing that, @merrychristmas!
That's new to me regarding Lamictal (lamotrigine) — though I've been on it myself. But as my doctor always reminds me, each of us responds differently, and that's so true!
Have you had a chance to talk to your doctor about this? I'd love to hear what he/she said if you have.
Chris
Lamictal caused the same vocal issue with me but it also caused blepharospams. I got off of it for that reason. Vocal hasn't recovered but eyes are much better. Vocal is a common side affects. Eyes are rare but happen
