Can I safely stop Eliquis and use Baby Asprin instead?
I have been on Eliquis for over 2 years following a blood clot in my leg. My PCP says I need to stay on it for the rest of my life.
I had venous ablation to resolve vein issues. I also tested for the blood clotting gene and do not have it.
I'm fatigued and weak since on Eliquis. Is is safe to stop taking Eliquis and instead opt for baby asprin?

I suggest trying to look at the same academic studies doctors use. There is usually an abstract that summarizes results that anybody can understand and then there may be reactions from other experts. Strokes and heart attacks are so awful that effort makes sense in addition to relying on feelings/instinct. It also helps when family members have already suffered strokes or heart attacks. You can see what you are possibly avoiding. My conclusion for myself is to take Eliquis.
LOL, you don't tell a doctor about what another doctor said that might be different from their opinion. Two Mayo Clinic doctors advice me to get 2 to 3 opinions for any major procedure. Mayo advice saved me from an extreme procedure for my cancer. The first 2 doctors had arrogant attitudes.
Couldn't Agree More, & GOOD FOR YOU! I watched my Husband, Mother, & Brother go to Dr.'s with Blinders On, & all 3 of them are DEAD today! Breaks my Heart that My Husband, an otherwise Intelligent Man, was raised in a Generation that took their Dr.'s advice as "Gospel".
I mentioned to him a couple of times, "Wouldn't you Like to get a 2nd Opinion?" ... He answered, "I'm Using the Dr. that my Other Dr.'s referred me to, That's Good Enough for ME!" (Who Knows, your Dr. may have been referring you to His Brother-In-Law, NOT as skilled as another Dr. available in your Community.)
I've Since come to the Conclusion, "EACH & Every Patient is Like a Snow-flake, No 2 of we patients are Exactly Alike. No - single Dr. can be "All Things To ALL of the PATIENTS (snow-flakes) who walk thru their doors!" If Your 'gut instinct' leaves you insecure, There must be other Dr.'s out there who'd look At You with a Fresh-Different Pair Of Eyes". The 2nd Dr. MAY either Confirm the 1st Dr.'s diagnosis & Convince you that it's the Right course of treatment ... or offer another alternative."
Just 1 Cautionary Note: Don't go to so many Dr.'s that you'll CONFUSE Yourself.
Thank You For Your Wise Words.
You Are So Right about telling 1 Dr. what other Dr.'s said ... It was the 1st time I'd dealt with this Medical Situation. "Ya' Live, Ya' Learn (Hopefully)".
If 2 Mayo Dr.'s advised you to get 2 or 3 Opinions, ESPECIALLY where Major Procedures are involved, I LIKE Their Wisdom! That's Why Mayo has a Reputation as 'One of The Best (IF NOT THE BEST) In The World'.
My Grandfather went to Mayo in the Mid-1930's, after seeing a couple of Local Dr.'s. Mayo Dr.'s "Told It Like It Is, (& IT Turned Out for him ... Just AS They'd told him.)
Good For You for going to Mayo. May I Sincerely Wish You Good Health & A Happy Outcome? & Thank You Again.
Also, please don't take a negative attitude from the doctor. Also ask about other and alternative procedures. I didn't ask and I had a surgery performed when there were two new and less invasive procedures. Research the internet and with your primary doctor.
God bless
Thank You Crawfords!
The Dr. we saw Did Suggest we go to Mayo Clinic. Last Spring I went to St. Louis is St. Lukes who've recently been evaluated as "One Of The Best In The Midwest, on a level With Cleveland Clinic & Mayo. That'll Be My Next Stop. Now I Just Have t ask her for a Referral.
I think if we establish a 'good exchange' with an established or new Dr., show them Respect & the Need to Learn, we can 'ward-off' a negative attitude. I'd Like to Think the Dr. who told (my Daughter &) me to "Find A New Cardiologist", it may have been a "bad Day" that had nothing to do with us! Her Supervisors May have told her to "Thin Out Your Patients & Only Take the Critical Ones! (I wouldn't have fit That Order)
& Maybe She didn't even know that she could have been doing us a Very Big Favor! There might be a Cardiologist 'out there' far better suited to treat Me - than she & her Clinic!
In todays' world Many Dr.'s are dealing with concerns, restraints, & demands made on them by the Organization they're affiliated with. As a patient when something like this happens it's good to take a step back & try to look at "The Bigger Picture". (Who among us have Never made a "Bad Call" or a mistake?)
Greetings, I hope you are blessed with excellent and trustworthy doctors. Sadly, not many doctors are capable of performing multiple procedures. New non-pervasive procedures are being developed.
