Burning gut issues still, 11 months out

Posted by southam97 @southam97, Nov 21, 2022

My most plaguing symptoms 11 months out are burning gut from my belly to the back of my throat. Endoscopy reveals nothing. Yet it hasn't improved at all. It keeps me awake at night and miserable by day. Little appetite. The chronic nausea I can deal with easier ( but no vomiting) but this incessant burning inside from top to my belly is crazy.
I also have spasms just under my ribs that feel like early labor pains. No one can tell me what is going on inside my body.

Anyone else dealing with similar?

Well, I haven't had diarrhea much for months- it's the burning through my entire torso that is most disconcerting to me, and lack of appetite. I have lost 3 sizes this year.
And living on Pedro bismol tablets lol when I have had enough of it!

I am curious about the spasms just under your ribs. I have been left with spasms of my diaphragm (bronchspasms). My diaphragm will spasm pushing upward (as if it is in the relaxed position, before breathing in) and is involuntary. This happens from taking a deep breath while doing mild aerobic exercise, even walking the length of one block. While spamming, it will be difficult to breath in and requires energy and focus to stop the spasm. This is from covid. I’ve not heard from anyone who shares this problem and wonder if this is your experience. It has been a year since covid and has gotten better but not gone away.

Is the burning gut you talk about reflux? I ask because I too had this problem for which I used Tums constantly. I’ve also gone on a low acid diet and now find much relief as the symptoms have eased and I rarely need the tums.

I guess I want to say that conditions can get better with time and attention.

No, it's nit acid reflux or Gerd, and not ulcers. So far no explanation except the gut- mind connection.
And my spasms literally feel like early labor contractions. But they are less frequent than they had been, but the gut burning and nausea and weight loss getting more persistent!

I have had nausea for almost 3 months since I got COVID. I have lost 17 pounds and the nausea comes and goes. It is awful. Some days I feel like I have the flu, but it is this long haul.

You said it’s not GERD or acid reflux. I’ve battled what I believe is laryngoesophageal reflux. It’s possible to have it without the typical reflux symptoms. My biggest symptoms have been hoarseness and cough. Occasionally ill have an acid taste in the morning when I wake up. A couple months ago I had a UTI and had a five day course of cipro. I’ve been taking pre and probiotics for months. I’ve suspected SIBO for a long time. The short course of cipro helped. I just reached out to my doctor since I don’t have insurance at the moment being between jobs. He agreed to a 14 day course of cipro.
Burning in the throat, barring some strange nerve problems would be typical of some form of reflux.

I’m using a product called reflux gourmet after eating- seems a bit helpful???

I’m not really familiar with it. If it helps great. So far cipro is helping which would support my thoughts of SIBO. Pre and probiotics are really helping too

I have had acid reflux for 23 years and have been on Protonix definitely not good but every time I went off I was in agony. I was on 280mg week. I found out about microgenic field, there was a nutritionist at my chiropractors of all places that used the Standard Process nutrients. She evaluated and gave me the nutrients that I needed, there were several one was drops under my tongue the other gels etc. The nutrients are all organic grown from a farm in Wisconsin. After 2 months I have now taking 60 mg of my Protonix a week.
I can’t believe the difference. It might be something you would want to look into.

I was hospitalized last month for severe - level 9 chest pain. It felt like GERD tthat I have had most of my life but did not respond to Pepcid, Gaviscon, or Prilosec- but did respond to viscous lidocaine, Endoscopy was negative. It did respond to 500mg of quercetin twice a day and to oral cromolyn- a prescription med distributed as ampules I took 6-10 ampules and got total relieve. Now 6 weeks after my first chest pain, teh pain is less and I am on 2 ampules of cromolyn and one 500 mg quercetin.

The fact that quercetin seems to help might be indicative of histamine intolerance. GERD can be a symptom of histamine intolerance. I’ve had problems I believe to be histamine intolerance but my allergist just shook his head. I believe covid can cause increased histamine.

I am not as experienced with GERD as so many who are commenting on this issue. But the burning stomach is something that I am experienced with. I have found that Aloe Juice from the health food store is an easy and quick remedy. Tastes almost like water, I just take about a shot of it and found it totally eases that discomfort. Also, although many go to decaf coffee, my doc told me there is a lot of acid in coffee, even decaf. I stopped drinking coffee or tea and my burning stomach has totally healed. That said, I am still taking 20 mg of Protonix a day and haven't been able to get off that.

I also avoid alcohol as that is a sure stomach irritant.

Just wanted to throw out these experiences in case they might be helpful to others.
