Are there any discussions for chronic pain?

Hi. I’m Michelle and I’ve recently had a lumbar spine surgery, which really went very well for my back and took away all the pain. But about three weeks after the surgery I developed nerve pain in the top of my foot and in my big toe . I just begun to take gabapentin but my system doesn’t seem to enjoy it. I feel spacey but I can tell it lowers the pain except at night. Just today I tried wrapping A lidocaine patch around the top of my foot and kind of over my big toe. It is really made a difference today, then again I am not sure if it’s the gabapentin small dose, or the patch I put on. I have had this chronic pain now for approximately two months perhaps a little longer.

@twokitties. Do not worry over a laminectomy – it is a smallincision to remove the troubled area. Wait until you need surgerywithlong incisions up and down with rod and screws. I have had 5surgeries, and many needle procedures. I sincerely hope yours worksand that is as far as you need to go in surgeries….ladyjane85

@success101 Hello. You said you would like to hear from me. Just to tell you a little more about me. My leg pain has been ongoing for over 2 years. I’ve tried physiotherapy, dry needling, various recommended exercises, chiropractors, acupuncture & an epidural. Nothing helped. I take morphine to be able to cope & I get things done. My surgery is scheduled for June 6th. The thought of the scalpel in my back, makes me shiver but my surgeon is very reassuring & has given me hope. You say you have the same condition. How are you coping?
Would like to hear from others who have gone through this.
@twokitties Hello twokitties my name is briansr..I saw your post and wish you all the luck on your surgery. Ive had 8 low back and cervical surgeries, all were a have to. The first two were lumbar L4-S1, I couldn’t walk. You might need some help when you get home. I am done, everyone I’ve had has caused the disc above or below to crumble. This has been a 33yr battle and they want to another one. I’m sure yours will go fine. I asked my dr what was wrong with me and he just said I was messed up. I will say a prayer for a speedy recoverj and no more leg pain. briansr
Hello brainsr. Thanks for your interest. Your situation is much more dire. I certainly hope for better days for you. It is frightening that you’ve had to have multiple surgeries seemingly caused by the previous. I don’t think my surgery involves any discs, only osteoarthritic growths that are are causing spinal stenosis.
Hello ladyjane85. After reading the many posts of multiple surgeries & decades of pain, my situation sounds minor indeed but these posts are also quite frightening. What if my surgery doesn’t help also or only leads to more pain & less hope! Must stop over thinking & stay positive.

Hello twokitties. I think your situation is dire compared to mine. I do have lots of pain in hip and legs.exercises everyday from PT.That has helped.Seeing chiorpractor .Will have to see how she works out. This has been going on for one yesr.Somenights not much sleep. Still hani,g in there. Did figure out cannot wear flat shoes.
Wedge heel works good. Meditate, and,so far hope,,to be back walking. Good luck to you.
Let us know on connect how you come out.
Someone mentioned pain association, I’ve never heard of that group.
That’s why I didn’t keep it. I figured that I would go throughthe same problems you did!
Thank you. I think my problems are just me, like the doctor said, your just messed up. I’m still looking for a name for my condition.briansr
Most people walk right out after surgery, I’m just stuck with badgenes. briansr
@briansr You aren’t the only one that has one day surgery whom the drsays you are being kept overnight. Some of us have bodies that do not deal with anesthetics and meds well. I guess weare the delicate people…… ladyjane85
19lin Thank you, but I have had 5 back surgeries, pain for 30 years, cannot take meds. I have an apartment in an Independent living facility, sohousework is done for me, and meals are down in the dining room. The restof the time I am on the bed in a half recline. Drs do not know what else todo, but I am going to try another nerve block procedure – he says if he canfind a place to put in the needle because of all the hardware in thelumbar. Now the compression disc fractures have gone up much higher in myback and more painful because the spasms go around the body to the front. Imake my bed and make it beautiful, and dress to where everyone admires myclothing ( I did model). All this hurts while performing these physicaltasks but when you look better, it makes you feel better…..ladyjane85
