Do you have AFib controlled w/drugs & taken a GLP1?
I am wondering if any AFib patients like me, who are controlling their AFib with drugs have also taken a GLP1 drug to lose weight? I read a study done in 2025 that showed that GLP1 lowered the amount of AFib events by about 13-18% in obese AFib patients. hrsonline org /news /glp1 -study-reduces-afib-events
I talked to my doctor about doing it, but she thought it might not be a good idea and I didn't talk to my cardio yet. In the study a few adverse reactions did happen but overall, the majority had good outcomes or no difference. They didn't do it to judge weight loss but just took low doses for the AFib question. I am going to talk to my cardiologist though asap because I want to use it for weight loss and the other could be a plus. If anyone has done this, please let me know how it went.
Thanks

1 ReactionDefinitely talk to your doctor. I have a fib, for 4 years. Ive been on Wegovy for a year and it is great! Ive lost 30 pounds. My primary physician prescribed it because it is harder on the heart when you carry excess weight. Good luck!

1 ReactionI was on two blood pressure pills. I started three months ago Glp-1
Foundayo. Only 2.5 mg daily. Lost ten lbs. I am happy with that so far. Staying on the pill for how long dont know.
I definitely still have Afib
I just dont need Blood Pressure pills any longer. I am on Eluqist blood thinner. I refuse Ablation when it has to bebmost I likely to be repeated. Too intrusive in my opinion to be repeated. Loose weight slowly is important. Than maintenence on low dose necessary.
I am on Amiodarone for AFIB and AFLUTTER/. Have been on a GLP-1 since mid January with no issues despite taking beta blockers and prednisone. (Both of these meds work against any sort of weight loss.) Slow but steady weight loss since achieving the proper therapeutic dose for me. 5' 3" High Weight 189 Current Weight 159. 24 lbs to go to my goal weight of 135.
Congrats on your weight loss. I've lost 15 lbs. in 6 weeks. I'm pleased, but still have over 50 lbs. to go. My A-fib is behaving, and I have stopped waking up with headaches. All the best to you!

1 Reaction@crystalblue I can’t say . I pull off my mask ( nasal pillows) all the time . It records I get under 3 hours of sleep. But my Afib is 90% better I don’t know if the weight reduction or not. I lost 65# since last September. I am 5# till I am the healthy wt on the BMI chart !!
@merrychristmas I am taking Zepbound and also have sleep apnea and A-Fib. How does it affect sleep apnea, other than weight loss?
Yes! Since Feb 2026 I have gone from 208 to 188. Slow but steady.

1 Reaction@cookiejoviolero13 - that sounds like a great benefit to the GLP-1 that you are having fewer issues with palpitations. Definitely share that with your cardiologist and whichever provider prescribed the tirzepatide (Mounjaro). I would expect they'd be interested.
Is the tirzepatide (Mounjaro) also helping your prediabetes and your weight?
I am on tikosyn for AFIB and Mounjaro for prediabetes and weightloss. I've been on Mounjaro for 6 months and hadn't been aware of the glp-1 connection until I read the above. Yes, I am having fewer issues with feeling palpitations!
