Do you have AFib controlled w/drugs & taken a GLP1?
I am wondering if any AFib patients like me, who are controlling their AFib with drugs have also taken a GLP1 drug to lose weight? I read a study done in 2025 that showed that GLP1 lowered the amount of AFib events by about 13-18% in obese AFib patients. hrsonline org /news /glp1 -study-reduces-afib-events
I talked to my doctor about doing it, but she thought it might not be a good idea and I didn't talk to my cardio yet. In the study a few adverse reactions did happen but overall, the majority had good outcomes or no difference. They didn't do it to judge weight loss but just took low doses for the AFib question. I am going to talk to my cardiologist though asap because I want to use it for weight loss and the other could be a plus. If anyone has done this, please let me know how it went.
Thanks

Definitely talk to your doctor. I have a fib, for 4 years. Ive been on Wegovy for a year and it is great! Ive lost 30 pounds. My primary physician prescribed it because it is harder on the heart when you carry excess weight. Good luck!

1 ReactionTo repeat what I said on another heart conditions group:
I've had afib for 5 years, usually 1-2 episodes per year, usually when I've been hot and possibly dehydrated. Controlled with beta blockers (metoprolol succinate daily, tartrate as-needed during episode).
Started zepbound in early July 2026. I've had 4 full-blown afib episodes in 53 days, about 17 more days with pvc flutters. Paused zep for a week, no episodes. Day 4 after my 7th zep injection I had another afib episode. This time 160 bpm for 1+ hours, which is actually not the worst one.
It's got to be connected.
I read that the tachycardia/irregular heartbeat may even out after 12 weeks. Not sure I want to continue another 5+ weeks to find out.
I've also read that patients with heart rhythm issues were excluded from the original drug studies. So there's little or no data to validate the occurrence quoted as being 2-5% of patients experiencing heart rhythm issues on glp1.
