Out of network coverage at Mayo for MAC

Posted by rmason @rmason, Oct 13, 2019

Has anyone had any success getting out of network coverage at Mayo for a second opinion? Tips regarding this process? Any opinions regarding Dr. Johnson at Mayo in Jacksonville? I currently have MAC and bronchiectasis-sputum positive after a year on two of the Big 3. I feel fine except for a cough.

@rmason I did. I had to have my Pulmonologist right a letter that there were no specialists in out current network for treatment of MAC. He recommended Dr Aksamit at Mayo. I sent that to my insurance and apparently they needed to respond in 15 days. They did respond and I was able to see Dr Aksamit.

@jkiemen And were you pleased with the care you received and follow up? Was any expensive testing done ( ct scan, etc] and was that covered out of network?

@rmason I also went out of network for a second opinion at Mayo. Since any testing done would not be covered, i had my GP script a catscan before hand and forwarded the disc to Mayo along with my broncoscopy results. Also hand carried all past medical testing results. My appointment at Mayo was very informative and I rest easy knowing i had expert advice.
