Aortic Ascending Aneurism - Share Growth Rate

Posted by Fighter @niravani, Jan 10 1:04pm

Hello Everyone, I look for any thread that talk about Aortic Ascending Aneurism with Bicuspid valve and its growth rate. I got diagnose by accident for Aortic Ascending Aneurism of 4.5CM at the age of 50 and have bicuspid valve as well. My next CT scan is in June 2024.

If anyone in the same boat or diagnosis, can you please share your experience with growth rate of this Aorta over time with bicuspid valve?

I will appreciate your input and help. Thank you.

Hi
I have a sending aortic aneurysm as well. 4.1
My docs say they won’t let it go past a 5. So make sure you have that watched.
I will opt for surgery as I just had a brain aneurysm and now this. So they are watching me. Get opinions always is safe.

Like I said, I have 4.5cm but I also have bicuspid valve which cause the aneurysm to begin with. Just don’t know how long it took to get to 4.5cm. Next scan is in June 2024 so we will see.
I saw and read studies where this can not grow at all and for some it grows 0.1mm a year and for some it grows 0.8mm a year!!
So most importantly, I am looking forward to see how much mine will grow with bicuspid valve if I maintain good cholesterol and maintain good BP.
Good luck.

Good that you are on top of it. Mine started at 4.1. I never had one. Same with the aneurysm in my brain. 4.8. Best of luck to you.

Thank you. I hope people can post on this thread about their experiences regarding Aneurysm growth if they have it for last years.

Especially people that might have bicuspid valve.

Thank you.

Interesting, I also had a brain aneurysm and an ascending aortic aneurysm (found while getting leg fracture surgery) with bicuspid valve. Both are fixed, embolization to fix the brain one, open heart for the aortic. My heart surgery was at 5.2, the size it had when they found it. That was my surgeon’s recommendation, he never mentioned 5.5, he did say 5.0 and above are considered large. I could not wait to have it fixed, had the surgery as soon as appropriate after my leg surgery (3 months). Back to normal life, (that was 4 years ago) just monitoring the valve every year

My drs said the same thing with the size of the sending aortic aneurysm. They will take mine at 5. Glad you are doing well. Sounds like you have a great medical team.
