I’ve been taking Prolia shots for over 5 years. However, I’ve noticed that my hair is very thin and my part is getting wider and wider. I didn’t realize prolia could be the reason for it. I have to skip injection this year due to tooth being pulled. So I would be able to have bone loss replaced after tooth removed.
I stopped taking Prolia in anticipation of dental work and after almost three months off of it, I fractured T4 and T5. I was in SO MUCH pain. Had to wear a full back brace. Finally had cement injected into the fractures. Just a warning if you stop taking Prolia. Unfortunately, as far as I know, almost any osteo drug and invasive dental do not go hand in hand. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Hair loss: Yep, me too.
Hi hopefulllibrarian, thank you for sharing your experiences. I was wondering about the three Rx's: by that do mean some combination of e.g. Evenity and e.g. Prolia? Or some other types? It would seem unlikely to be on two of the bone building meds at once.
I am sorry to hear Prolia caused your hair loss, or at least that correlation seems to be a strong connection. I will probably stick to my decision to go with Prolia and hope for the best.
Hi lashu,
The other two meds I mentioned aren't for osteoporosis treatment. I've been taking one of them for three years, and the other I was only took for three months.
Many people have had great results with Prolia with little to no side effects. I genuinely hope that you are one of those people.
If only we knew in advance which treatments would work best for each of us. With any luck, I'll find a doctor who will as least try to tailor a treatment that works for me. I wish the same for all of us who are living with osteoporosis.

Thank you, again, for responding. Tailoring the treatments would 'entail' correlating the chemistry (DNA?) of the individual with the specific drug: I guess IA would be handy for that. Computers already do vast calculations, maybe there's already a program for it. Yes, it would be nice to know ahead of time if we are going to lose hair, have heart problems, fracture a thigh bone (that's really a weird one), etc. Meantime I guess it's a toss of the dice, so to speak. I'm sorry, I forget, what are you taking now for your bones? Evenity?

Using AI to interpret medical complexities is something I dream about. It's too much to expect a human to be able to do it.
re: current Rx for osteoporosis--I had one Prolia injection, and haven't decided what's next because I'm changing my insurance plan, and what the new plan covers is vastly different to my current one. I'm stongly considering a bisphosphonate in the interim.
BTW I totally agree that the thigh bone fracture Rx risk is a weird one.
Me, I’ll probably start taking Prolia next year. I’ve had too many accidents that should have been broken bones -but nothing broke!! So unless I learn of something better I’ll probably return to it!
Please tell me if there’s something better!
Thank you meomurian, that is such good news, as I will probably start Prolia very soon. It's also nice that one can be on Prolia for a long period of time. Evenity had that shortcoming of a year.
Prolia also seems to be used for some other maladies. Interesting.
I just had a mastectomy for breast cancer and my endocrinologist who first prescribed Prolia for my osteoporosis told me that no I couldn’t be on a better drug for helping my osteoporosis at the same time as inhibiting the growth of breast cancer cells.
He also told me that Evenity is such a new drug that they don’t have any data on how safe it might be if taken beyond a year. Too bad since it enhances new bone growth.

Oh! Again! Such good news! As I have a history of cancer, one caught early enough to avoid chemo, just having surgery--but it came back twenty years later, so it had stayed in my system! So that is even better news Meomurian! Thank you for lightening my worry load a great deal. The newness of Evenity has been troublesome for me as well. Plus, some of the studies I have read indicate some increase in cardio events. But this particular correlate has been a mixed one with some reports denying any increase in heart issues. Always a bit of a toss of the dice. But my heart is lighter with your news. Thank you.
I’ve been on Prolia for two years and noticed significant hair loss five days after my last injection. I’m now searching for a product to slow or stop the hair loss.
My hairdresser recommended Biotin. Just starting now after moderate hair loss. Now my eyebrows thinning too. Use an eyelash thickener/nutrition lash formulation on them too.

I am having hair loss from Prolia too. Does it get less with continued treatment or should I get switched to another drug?

I took Biotin for years I don't think it did anything for my hair but it did help my finger nails grow and keep them from splitting and chipping
