Prolia and Hair Loss

I have not taken Reclast yet and will not after the side effects I had with Prolia. I had no side effects with Evenity but now have to make another choice of drugs to take. I'm tired of having my quality diminished because of these side effects. I am 71 and have been taking drugs for this since I was 50.

So sorry to hear this but that is where I am. The drugs are worse than the disease. I will not take anymore drugs for osteoporosis.

My heart doctor(I don’t have heart disease, but have high cholesterol) said that he would never recommend prolia, my dentist said the same.

Look for Fluoride Free, Enamel Toothpaste. Fluoride is toxic to the body and blood tests show it get into the bloodstream in 6 min after using a fluoride toothpaste.

This is very discouraging to hear about hair loss with Prolia. I already have 50% hair loss and my endocrinologist says it’s not my thyroid and pretty much just dismissing it. I haven’t started my osteo treatment yet and will not go on Prolia after reading the side effects and also not willing to commit to this forever. I’m really dreading this decision. Waiting to hear what my insurance is going to pay first for Evenity or Tymlos. Very stressed out over here☹️

I only had one shot, and my hair started coming out in clumps and breaking off as well. It's been coming out so fast that someone at work recently, in an attempt to be helpful, told be about a great place to buy wigs.
I canceled my next shot too. When I decided to take it, I didn't really know what I was doing. I had just been diagnosed, and didn't know much about osteoporosis. Joining this forum has been very educational for me. I won't start any other treatments before learning all that I can. The book frequently mentioned in various threads, Great Bones by R. Keith McCormick, DC is also helping me to better understand the benefits and risks of the various osteoporosis treatments that are available.

There are shampoos that are supposed to stimilate hair growth. I don't know long Prolia stays in my system, so it may get worse before it gets better. From what I've read though, it is possible to grow it back, but it takes a while.

I hope we both find better treatment options, and can regrow our hair.

Thanks. As I just posted to another response, it occurred to me that patients who receive radiation for cancer, do not have to wait 3 months or a hair cycle to notice hair loss. Why would patients on Prolia? My hair loss was plugging up my shower twice weekly. And this started 2 weeks after the injection. I wish I hadn’t done the 2nd injection now.

I recently started using a shampoo that's supposed to help, Pura d'Or Advanced Therapy Biotin. It has great reviews, and the majority of the ingredients are organic. It's not water based either, it's made with aloe vera instead. Love these things about it. Hope it works. Has anyone here tried it before and had any positive results? It's too early for me to be sure if it's doing anything--only a couple of weeks.

I am having slight hair loss and thinning. I had my first Prolia shot about 6 months ago and am now wondering if I should get another. I am also taking Synthroid after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Don't know which is to blame or either. Someone wrote that all the doctors defend the drugs they prescribe. Doubt that they bother to check interactions, etc. I did have alopecia areata several years ago, where clumps of hair came out. I got wigs. So, you might check to see if you have that autoimmune disease. Problem is: you don't know which drug to blame or what to fear most.....
