Mucinex
I have been taking 12 hour Mucinex twice a day. I read on label not to take ongoing……any opinions?

@wangling my NP gives me augmentin (Amoxicillin and clavulanate in one tablet). Previously, I used bactrim but developed a possible allergy to sulfa drugs. When taking it I notice there's less mucus and therefore less clearance time. A good item to have in your travel kit.
Thank you so much Scoop for your input. I will check with my pulmonologist. BTW: how does the SPIRIVA inhaler work for you without Flovent. Is it effective for you?
Thanks again.
Ling
You may want to consider homeopathy! Try the allergy one first and drink an herbal tea with Thyme and nettle tea with mint and parsley! It work very good for me when I have a lot of mucus. Another thing that work well when I have an infection is a bronchoscopy. It is worth a try
Hi Nick - It is great to see your suggestions, and herbal teas can be very helpful in thinning mucus.
However, a bronchoscopy is a potentially risky procedure that is normally used as a diagnostic tool, not an infection treatment. Are you possibly talking about bronchial lavage, which is sometimes used to try to wash out infected sputum?
Daily airway clearance, with or without saline nebs, is a much less invasive way of keeping infection away.

1 ReactionYes a bronchial lavage! I keep my lungs clear with what I suggested. It is worth a try. All you’ll loose is that it won’t work for you. Good luck!
I also have a Mac
No medication for me neither. Never had any for it. I tried and used natural remedy. I do a lot of reading to find the best options with no secondary effects.

1 ReactionHow is your bronchial lavage performed?
May I know why you needed to use bactrim. What bug do you grow? I don't think I have allergy to sulfa but bactrim was hard on me. May I know your bactrim dose. How is augmetin? better than bactrim?
Hi Ling,
I was on information overload...so he mentioned azithromycin (as an anti-inflammatory), but then clarified that it is our best drug for MAC relapse et al. Then mentioned Bactrim. Not sure where he is going to land. We have a followup in September before my trip. Wish I had pinned him down on that one. I'll try to send a note to his office and get back to you.
