Posted by mrs artavia @mrsartavia, Aug 29, 2013

Hello everyone, I am looking for anyone who suffers from fibromyalgia and can suggest healing methods, medication and I would like to compare symptoms. Mine feels as if I had the flu, headache, joint aches, terribly tired, pain around the glands, stomach pain, low back. If lyou can please write with any comment or suggestion for relief, or any idea what causes it I will appreciate it thank you.

Hi @tbeckys, and welcome to Connect. I moved your message over to this discussion on managing fibromyalgia. I'd like to introduce you to several members on Connect, including @ladyjane85, @disgusted, @robbinr and @1langla. I'd also like you to meet two of our mentors, @dawn_giacabazi and @johnwburns. There is also a Chronic Pain group that you may find resourceful: http://mayocl.in/2cBiRN5.

@tbeckys, can you tell us a little more about yourself?

Hi everyone, my name is Jenn. I have been suffering chronic back and hip pain for a couple of years now and was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I finally found a great pain Dr. Luckily, I am slowly finding some relief, but not as much as I want. It's a process though, right? Some days I'm at my wit's end and thought it best to find a community forum for support, motivation, and possible solutions etc.

I look forward to being a part of this community and interacting with everyone.

Thanks for reading,
~Jenn

Howdy there! I was diagnosed last year and doing much better since. It'd be great to share information with you.

I've been focusing on my diet and finding wheat and cow dairy don't particularly help me. Been trying to get off of medication and it's not going as quickly as I hoped. I changed to a part time job and that has been huge. I'm managing now.

I think different food have different effects on body and mind. I have noticed a combination of yogurt and rice makes my pain worst. I have tried gluten free food which has helped me with my pain. I also use steam room, spa and do water aerobic in warm water which helps to reduce pain and tiredness. I do take turmeric in hot milk before bed that helps with sleep.

Why am I included in autoimmune diseases? Not my issue. Please remove me from these chats. Thanks.

Welcome Jenn, that's great you found a good pain dr, I haven't been that lucky todate. My PT ordered a walker and as a 67 year old I really didn't want to use it but It really helps with the back pain. i can walk much further and when it hurts my walker has a seat so I can sit. once the pain eases I can walk again for a short distance. I'm with you on the flu like symptoms and stomach pain. I just had a bunch of tests done on my gastrointestinal tract to be sure there wasn't something else going on. Lucky or not, everything looks normal so it's most likely the fibro. I have a sister who died of pancreatic cancer about 1 1/2 years ago so they wanted to be sure that wasn't the issue. The weather brings on my flu symptoms and since I live in the northeast, we get lots of weather!
Good luck
