Reversal of a fundoplication

My sincere apologies it took a while to reply to your post; you may notice that I moved your discussion and combined it with this existing discussion on Nissen Fundoplication. I thought it would be beneficial for you to be introduced to the many members who have discussed much of what you are experiencing.

It seems you are not alone in your frustrations; I'm tagging Mentor @kdubois and @carolynlivingjaks who have written extensively about Nissen Fundoplication, and I'm certain they will share their thoughts with you.

I had a Nissen fundaplication done in 2011. About 7 months later I was continuing to have many stomach issues and continuing to lose weight and had developed gastroparesis. As a result,I was referred to Mayo Clinic in Arizona. After extensive testing at Mayo, it was seen that the original fundaplication surgery was too tight and a redo laparoscopic fundaplication conversion to a Toupet was necessary. give it some time. I had a very large hiatal hernia repair in nov., 2016 repaired and a 360 gree fundoplication . I have had heartburn like symptoms ever since. I have finally been disgnosed with a "hypersensitive esophagus" which means it is very susceptable to this heartburn feel although the bravo 48 hour test that was done indicates i am neutral on ph; there is no acid reflux. The link also has it's problems. My current solution is to be on atavan 4 times a day to relax the esophagus muscles. Go back to the original surgeon and tell him your problems. Maybe you have my condition. The AMA solution for my problem is hypnotism (which after 12 sessions and $1100 out of my pocket did not work); thus the atavan, even though i am not depressed. The dangers of staying on the antacids is : possible osteoporosis; kidney failure; dementia;altheimers disease. Have you had any food sticking? I had 7 incidences of this and had to have 3 dilations in 5 months. beast wishes..... kozlo52

The wrap was too tight and no matter how many dialitions were done (as it was explained when the wrap is too tight it's like trying to stretch a rubber band)! It won't work. He lost significant weight which has caused more health problems. I would encourage you to see if you can get to a Mayo clinic. My son's surgeon is awesome, Dr. Steven Bowers in Jacksonville. He undid the wrap and did the Linxs. You are able to eat and in fact must eat the day of surgery to keep the magnetic beads moving and not be taken over my scar tissue. My son due to losing so much weight now has a feeding tube and Dr. Bowers diagnosed with him SMA syrndorme. However, unbeknownst to any of us including Dr. Bowers. My 21 year old son's body makes very fibrous tough scar tissue. Therefore, only 2 out of 13 beads are currently moving and he still has difficulty swallowing and always will for the rest of his life. Which means he may have a feeding tube for the rest of his life too. But he's a different case. I would highly encourage you to find someone to talk with that knows intensive about the NF wrap and the augmentation of the Linxs. You can YouTube, Dr. Steven Bowers discussing the Linxs device.
