Long Covid + getting more boosters- any reputable info out there?

Posted by ericy210 @ericy210, Sep 21, 2022

I had the two Moderna shots and one booster. Got Covid in May and have been suffering with neurological long Covid issues. Lots of neurological studies and appointments for me.
Now I wonder if I should get a new booster. Would it help? Is it safe? Will it help or worsen my condition?
Anybody seen any reputable studies or articles addressing this? I’ll be asking my own doctor too. Just don’t know what to do!

Is it okay to have booster shot although I'm still having post covid symptoms? And what booster shot is safe for first shot of Jansen & Jansen vaccine? I was tested positive last june, but had negative PCR tests several times already, but still having post covid symptoms. Thanks for the reply/comments

My post COVID symptoms began September 2020, before vaccine availability. Both my husband and I had the J&J initial vaccine, March 2021. We’ve boosted twice when eligible - first booster was Moderna, November 2021; second Pfizer, April 2022. Figured we’d get covered from all angles. We took all vaccines well. Unfortunately I am still symptomatic at 2 years, but neither of us have gotten COVID again, so there is that. We plan on getting the newest booster and flu shot soon, as last year.

No studies, but my personal experience …

When I was ready for my second Phizer booster shot I came down with covid for the first time. I have long covid symptons and asked the pharmacist what he thought about taking the second booster. . He said he would not take the second booster. My son, an MD researched the question and said I was 10% likely to have a side effect. Now I am looking for a third opinion from my internest. Will let you know what I decide.

Thank you. My brain fog has cleared with amantadine, which helps the brain recover from disease or injury. I had severely impaired short term memory, diagnosed as general amnesia, for a few months. I’m afraid to disrupt anything with a booster. I have a team of doctors and neurologists but there’s no clear research.

I had covid in February and had lethargy, some breathing issues for a couple of months. I felt like I was trying to manage a recalcitrant teenager! I live at 2600 ft, and took a trip to Italy at sea level. It did wonders and I could breathe much better. My PCP told me I was good until November, but I am getting the new booster next week. Several people on my April tour did get covid, but I did not! So, I think having had it gives you a better immunity along with the previous boosters. I am glad the new variant booster came out, certainly was not going to get the previous version.

More information for you about research on covid boosters done by son, MD. 50% receiving booster have no improvement but are protected from another infection. 30-40% have an improvement in their symptons after receiving the booster. It may be the booster ramps up the immune system to rid the body of lingering virus. 10% will actually get worse following the booster.
From a purely statistical standpoint there's a 90% chance you'll either get better or stay the same with the booster but you will be protected from future infections. I will still wait to see what my internist says when I see her on Oct, 10.

Just weighing in from my personal experience and viewpoint. I have had Covid 3 times (I’m 65). It wasn’t fun, but no hospitalization. I chose not to get the vaccines because they don’t prevent it, and I was more concerned with the lack of long term testing and side effects. If you are having side effects from the shots, I would not get boosters.

Happy for you! However, the vaccines do not prevent Covid. They do lessen the severity. Some people have such mild symptoms, they don’t even know they have it (the latest one). I had Covid three times. No one in our household caught it the first two times (worst ones). The last time, my son & I had it. Neither of us are vaccinated. My husband was not vaccinated until after I had the first 2 variants. His job required it, so he eventually gave in. He and his Dad (both got vaccines) have had long lasting side effects (digestive) since they were vaccinated. Everyone’s immune system handles things differently. I have had friends who had one child get Covid, everyone else was sick with same symptoms, but tested negative. There really is no way to predict how your body will react to the vaccines or Covid variants. Kid of a crap shoot. Hugs!
