Transplant: Amoxicillin for dental appointment

Posted by hello1234 @hello1234, Nov 17, 2021

Hi all,
I have an 8am morning dentist appointment next week. The dentist would like me to take 2,000mg amoxicillin one hour before the appointment to prevent infection. Normally at 7am I take my Cellcept and Envarsus XR. What do you do in this instance? Has anyone taken amoxicillin with Cellcept and Envarsus XR? Do you take amoxicillin when you visit your dentist or go for a dental cleaning? Thanks everyone!!

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 @hello1234 my friend! I’m sending positive good liver enzymes vibes your way! Let us know what happens and what your team says.

I’ll be curious too what they say about Alendronate. It’s not supposed to interact with Tac, but does have hepatotoxicity listed as a rare side effect.

Athena 🤗

Hi @athenalee 😊 Thanks so much for checking in and sending good vibes my way!! My doctor called and told me to not take the Fosamax on Sunday. He wants to retest my liver enzymes next week without the Fosamax in my system. Tomorrow I have the liver ultrasound and elastography test. In the next couple of weeks, they should have enough blood tests and scans to piece together the cause of the elevated liver enzymes. (I think it's going to be the Fosamax and the Cellcept but I will wait and see).. Thank you again for being such a good friend! ❤

Good morning @athenalee 😊 Yes, you are correct!
This Friday morning are my liver tests to try and diagnose my elevated liver enzymes.
I think everyone is pretty confident that it's the medications that are causing it, but I think they also want to check for any damage since the enzymes have been elevated since my transplant over a year ago. I will definitely keep you posted on my results!
Also, I started Fosamax and I think it's causing even higher liver numbers and I may need to change to Prolia for my osteoporosis.
Thank you for always being so supportive Athena!!
Talk to you soon...and Happy Thanksgiving Day! ❤ I am thankful for your friendship.

@hello1234 Good luck on your test today. My liver enzymes were also elevated after the transplant when I was on high dosage of immunosuppressants. It must be from the meds. Sending good vibes and I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Hi @leahdrose 😊 I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving Day! Thank you for jumping in to the conversation! Yes, I successfully had my elastography and liver ultrasound this morning. Thank you so much for the good vibes!!! ❤

Pre-Transplant my ALT liver enzymes were 10, now it's running around 34. (With the Fosamax it's up to 50 this week. My doctor told me to stop taking Fosamax asap)

Pre-transplant my AST liver enzymes were 22 and it's now 34 (With Fosamax it's up to 43 this week).

As far as I can see it's definitely the meds. I am not sure if it's okay to stay at ALT 34 when my normal pre-transplant ALT was 10.

I wonder if it will ultimately injure the liver or if it's okay? I don't know anything about the liver. The kidneys have always been my focus for 50 years!

I currently take 500mg Cellcept twice a day, so I don't think they would reduce the Cellcept. If necessary, they would probably change Cellcept to another drug. The kidney is doing well, so I am concerned about making a med change, but of course I don't want to harm my liver either.

I don't know if my current liver numbers can safely be my "new normal" or not?

Thank you @athenalee @rosemary @leahdrose @contentandwell @cehunt57 @estrada53 for all your concern, thoughts and support. You are terrific friends!! ❤ Very thankful for Mayo Connect.
