How to Rest Between Mayo Appointments

Posted by baker00l @baker00l, Nov 4, 2021

Hello, I have an odd question. I have multiple appointments scheduled on each day I will be at Mayo Clinic. Is it possible to rest somewhere in the facility between appointments? Are there any cushioned chairs anywhere?

HI! Which Mayo Clinic will you be visiting? If it’s Rochester, there are 2 beautiful areas to lounge. One is in the Charlton building on the sub level. It has a lovely Grand Piano where someone is frequently playing…be it a guest, patient or staff. I’ve posted 2 photos below.

In the Gonda building there is another lounging area, again with a Grand piano. You can’t miss it because you’ll be going that way from building to building. Buildings are all connected, by the way. It’s around the corner from the cafeteria so you can mosey over there to get a lunch or snacks. On the other side of that lounge area is a coffee shop and the Gonda store where you can do a little shopping.

Also, connected via the ‘subway’ system are shops where you can find a food court, candy store, department stores, etc.

Depending on where your appointments are, if you’re in the Gonda Building, each floor as you come off the elevators, has an amazing view from the windows. There are plenty of lounge chairs to relax and read. Most of the clinic has good WiFi reception if you want to bring an iPad.

Any other questions about lodging or navigating the clinic? It’s very easy to get around with ample signage to direct you to each building and plenty of volunteers with Blue Jackets to assist you.

Let me know which campus you’ll be attending. If it’s not Mayo Rochester we have other members, @danab who is familiar with the Phoenix campus and @ess77 who is familiar with the Jacksonville campus.

Have you connected with Mayo Clinic via your patient portal yet?

@baker001, Have you seen the Mayo Clinic Florida Buildings & Maps page? -- https://www.mayoclinic.org/patient-visitor-guide/florida/campus-buildings-maps

Depending on which building(s) where you have your appointments, the maps might be helpful and the cafeterias could be a place to rest between appointments. There are normally some comfortable chairs or benches located throughout the different buildings, at least there are a lot of them in the Rochester facility.

When will you be going?

I have attached the link to the pdf of the Jacksonville campus map. It will help you decide where to park.

You probably have a Covid test scheduled first? I did in August and I started off in the Cannaday Building first for my test. .. seems like on my itinerary they called the building something else. We parked in Lot C. It makes for a little bit of a walk from the Cannady Building to the Davis Building… especially since we missed our hallway turn going to the Davis Building (we had been used to a different route and paid no mind to signs 🙄) … but we did okay with our bad feet 😀 They were remodeling and we had to go through a temporary hallway to get to the Davis Building from Cannaday Building. … much shorter route coming back to parking lot 😁.

There are many areas to rest at … cafeteria and waiting area on first floor of Davis Building… areas in hallways scattered about. Yes, with cushioned chairs and some benches with padding. There is an outdoor area with tables and chairs just outside the cafeteria. I think there were some tables and chairs in the hallway area out from the cafe. .. maybe outside too. Benches outside . … not padded. But peaceful to sit near the water if weather permits.

If you want a printout of your itinerary instead of looking at your phone they will print it out for you when you check in at any area.. just ask. It was big enough print we did not have to use our eyeglasses to read it. You may have gotten a printout in the mail. My appointments were made this time on the way down there… I was a bit urgent in need of having my esophagus stretched.

I have been there many times.. ask me questions and I will try and answer. My appointments are usually the gastro department. .. test being in the hospital building.

Make sure your phone is turned on while there… sometimes one of your appointment times can change and they need to get in touch with you. That happened to me one time while I was in with the NP.. just say you need to take the call.. they will understand.

I'm in Jacksonville now. My appointments were scheduled back to back so I didn't have time to relax, but I understand that there is a meditation garden here somewhere that I mean to check out. I would like to tell you where it is but I haven't found it myself! I bet someone else could say though.

Miserable weather here today!
