Anyone Tried Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

I’m thinking about going back to therapy. Does anyone have experience with CBT? Any information would be most appreciated. 😊

Please, can anyone recommend any CBT cognitive behavioral therapy self help books? Something that's not a million pages long and is written in plain English?

I'm doing cognitive behavioral therapy now. Its premise is to provide you with the tools to move forward and solve your issues. Proven in the literature. Its been excellent!

I'm working w CBT to solve issues of PTSD, anxiety, and depression/disappointment because of chronic pain.

I'd enjoy hearing more about your experience with CBT, for example, how long have you been working with this program? What are some of the signs that this is helping you? Are you journaling as you read?

I've been in a CBT program for a year. It provides me w positive thoughts and steps for a future, and does not dwell on the past. It builds thoughts of self-esteem and "can do" attitudes. I don't journal, as I can't concentrate right now. The CBT therapist is very supportive of my decisions to make changes to medications, get Neuropsychological testing, change physicians--all things hard to do without positive feedback.

How wonderful that you have so many support systems in place, @linamend! It does take a great deal of diligence to make changes in your thinking and mood.

Teresa, it's been a life-long battle for me with low-mid level depression. I've tried many meds, none of which seem to hit the spot. I have a few good days a month, but most are some version of a mild "blue mood" and a few are really pretty bad. The funny thing is I can't figure out what causes the good days and what causes the bad days. I'm thinking CBT training will help elevate my mood most every day so that I'll have more great days, fewer "blue mood" days, and only a rare horrible day.

I understand a bit about how difficult those moods can be, @johneckenrode11. Have you ever journaled your daily activities? I'm thinking of a journal about what you did, how you ate, what exercise you had, who you might have talked to either in person or by phone, or email?

By keeping a daily journal of activities, you might get a clue to any triggers that might contribute to those blue days.

In the meantime, I look forward to hearing about your CBT experience. It worked well for me and I hope you notice success as well.

@johneckenrode11 Good for you for being up to trying something that may work for you! "I'm thinking CBT training will help elevate my mood most every day so that I'll have more great days, fewer "blue mood" days, and only a rare horrible day." We each seem to have different paths to what will work. Sometimes finding the right combination is a great challenge, and really wanting to help ourselves is the great first step.

I'll be waiting to hear how you feel with it, when you report back.
