What are your recommendations for travel nebulizer?

As you now know, there is a vast difference between nebulizers, like you I dumped one because it was too slow, and another because the battery heated up when used (I was afraid to have it in my luggage)

I recently read about the Pari travel nebulizer on this site and bought it. I really like it! Can use it in the car or plug in outlet when traveling. It is also pretty quiet so I was able to nebulize in another room and the sound would not even be noticeable.

sue, forgive me if I have this question in the wrong topic. But I recently switched taking a 3% saline solution to a 7% solution. Its so much stronger and I cough more throughout the procedure and discharge mucus. Is this normal? This is my second time nebulizing. I do feel that I will probably adapt to it. I have another friend that told me 7% was too strong for her and her doctor cut it down with an added solution. Like all of you Im hopping that 7% will cut down on my bacteria count. Hauoli

Oh yes, I cough up a lot more. But to me that's the point of the neb. Often I quit halfway through because I'm "coughed out" At first I used 7% and 3% 50-50, but I changed to all 7% pretty quickly.

I use arobika while nebbing and no coughing using 7% twice daily. I was not finishing all the Sod. Chl. in 15-20 mins and not understanding why. I sterilize everything after each use. Can something happen to the arobika that keeps the medicine from going into the lungs? I tried using regular and other type neb kits without the aerobika and I would cough and actually coughed up mostly light yellow sputum. I'm on my third aerobika in 2 years but I thought they would last longer as I do soap/water cleaning and sterilizing in microwave bags. I am asymptomatic and want to stay that way. Any thoughts?

I found it was too difficult to get the saline into my lungs while using the Aerobika, actually making me dizzy as I worked so hard - and it took over 30 minutes. I switched back to a regular neb, and using the Aerobika before or after. When my asthma is also acting up, I neb levalbuterol or duoneb to open my airways before the saline.
What does everyone else do?

Thank you. So far it seems I take in 3-4 breaths of 7% and cough up mucus. When I did 3% I often just coughed a total of 3 times. So as dynamic as 7% is I am getting a lot of mucus out. Feels almost like exercise but you are right, thats the whole point. Congratulations on being MAC free. We are so blessed to have a mentor like you.

Good conversation…I have questions. I use Aerobika w 7% saline 2 x day plugged in to my Ombra…which is noisy. With LWS (Lady Windermere Syndrome) I do not cough any sputum up…wish I could. The saline does “ initially” burn a bit, but I carry on dutifully. My process takes approximately 15 minutes and I am totally exhausted after…takes me another 15-20 minutes to gain composure…some days better/worse than others. So my airway clearance is nil…but I am of the belief that the saline must be doing something…am I correct? Here is a question…when my Pulmonologist( in NC) called in the script (from NJH) here at home, he also called in duoneb (for wheezing)…I have never used any because I do not believe I am wheezing…but Sue your comment that it “opens airways for saline” is thought provoking to me. Should I use it anyway? To open airways with hope that the saline will get down there more efficiently?

Hello Regina - I wasn't technically wheezing either, so I wasn't using it, but I got quite a scolding from my Primary when I saw her - of course, she was correct! Now, I still don't use the Duoneb daily, but whenever my chest is the least bit heavy or tight. On the other days, I use my levalbuterol rescue inhaler before nebbing.
