CPAP (Phillips recall) and Cancer
I have recently learned that the manufacturer of the Dreamweaver CPAP (Phillips) is recalling these machines. They have evidence that the machines are emitting gasses and particles that may cause cancer. I have been using one of these machines for almost five years, and just over a year ago I was diagnosed with CEL. I would be interested to hear if other CEL patients (or other leukemias) are CPAP users?

@danamh Interesting handle I’m guessing we share the same first name. But I also have a Phillips Dream station and have registered for the recall. I figured it was something that would fail early and did not know why there was a recall. I continue to use mine and it seems to work fine. Now I happen on the recall from my supplier who had asked if I registered but didn’t say again why. So, my doctor's office has not contacted me and maybe I should investigate further. As a side note I don’t have my Thyroid anymore I lost due to a long-term medicine that damaged my thyroid so maybe I'm not as at risk at this point. I will inquire with the office to verify if I should be concerned. Ill update once I find out next week.

I started using a Dreamstation CPAP a couple of years ago but switched to a ResMed AirMini when I found out about the recall notice. Have you or a loved one experienced lung injuries or developed cancer as a result of using a Philips CPAP machine? If so, you may be entitled to financial compensation.
A class-action lawsuit claims Philips Respironics knew about the defects in their CPAP machines for years, but only warned consumers about them in late April of 2021 and recalled them in June 2021.
This lawsuit aims to hold Philips responsible for damages and to replace the defective devices with safe ones.

1 ReactionThe CPAP supply company wont issue a new CPAP unless i have another prescription. Doctor's appointment is on 8/20/2021; in the meanwhile, i am still using the same CPAP. I did not register my CPAP because there is a YOUTUBE video that show people using an incorrect number and get a not recall message instead of an error message. Thank you for connection and for the link. Will use to connect with others.

Depending on your relationship w/PCP, suggest you contact his office and request he write a new prescription for you to get the ball rolling. Then, keep your appt and move ahead. Might work and save some delay. Get them to help you out and be your advocates!

2 ReactionsMy husband just found out about the Dreamstation recall. He only found out because he was looking for a battery pack - was not notified by his doctor or by Phillips. He has been using this same machine for at least 5 years. For a long time he would smell a burning plastic smell. He since has turned the heater to the lowest setting.
He was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma one year ago. Was only caught when his annual physical bloodwork showed elevated white cell count. Bone marrow biopsy confirmed stage IV mantle cell lymphoma. He currently has no symptoms so no treatment is being done.
Could these two be related???

I see a lot of people referencing thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer on this thread. My husband wore one of the recalled CPAP devices for 5 years. He was diagnosed with anaplastic thyroid cancer in 2015 and died 87 days after his diagnosis. My family and I finally feel we now know why, he was only 49 years old. Even the doctors were baffled on how he got this rare cancer since he did not present with the typical risks involved. We will be filing as part of the Class Action Suit.
