C. difficile – Are your guts ever normal again?

Posted by sue6408 @sue6408, Jan 27, 2019

Does anyone know any body that has recovered from c.diff (guts back to pre-c.diff status ) . I have been negative for a year and still have bloating every time I eat anything and sporadic diarrhea. I need maternity clothing to eat and be comfortable. I have 0 appetite since I was initially infected.I am on creon 36,000 . this helps some what with bloating,I take papya&pineapple enzymes not helping, and floraster 2xday not sure about that.I have tried the FODMAP diet, I avoid many foods on that diet. I am seeing an RD, just finished an elimination diet with her. If I eat I bloat there for I am. Bottom line...are my guts ruined forever ?

@lacy2 I definitely think that vancomycin is such a strong antibiotic that it definitely wreaks havoc in our systems. Particularly, because I took so much of it! But probably the doctor will not say that. Look at the mess clindamycin caused!

...after first 2 weeks of VANCOMYCIN, didnt work, my gp prescribed Dificid - but pharmacy said they didnt have any and couldnt get any... I later found out they could have got some in for me in a week but i didn't know i could wait; it was $2000.00 - no kidding, and pharmacist said to me... oh you dont want to pay that; but I phoned my insurance company and they WOULD have paid.. anyway my husband said we will take money out of savings if it works better, none of Pharmacists business if I paid cash . They say knowledge can be a dangerous thing but I darn well wish I had known more as I believe Difficid works quite well? I feel my bowel is damaged for LIFE. If I were younger and not living in Northern Ontario I would have pursued a fecal transplant but why are they playing this down lately...they were all overjoyed at results now I find hardly anything... Big Pharma wont be able to sell as many antibiotics if we get better with a transplant? I am disillusioned, fed up and dont trust some drs any more and even not some pharmacists! C.Diff is like a hidden illness and no I didn't get it in hospital but from about 6 antibiotics in 5 months for uti that could have been treated differently.... my stupidity!!! Now i have to wallow in fecal incontinence for the rest of my life... yep, feeling sorry for myself today!! Grrrr

@lacy2 I definitely agree with you! I had the fmt in March, 2019. I was 71 at the time. It definitely saved my life. I most likely wouldn't be alive today. As we all know, big pharma has been running the show for some time. I found it interesting that I couldn't get the fmt until I had 3 relapses! What does that tell you? I wouldn't have had to take all that vancomycin if I could have had the fmt sooner! It has nothing to do with us getting healthy. It's about the "money ", as usual. Disgusting!

as they say, money is the root of all evil and my dear old Mum used to say: greed is the root of all evil ! I know we are not supposed to do fmt at home, and why, but it sure is tempting!!! I am positive that by now they could sell us perhaps frozen feces to swallow etc. as I have read about... but they havent figures out a way to make millions from it; same as marijuana... I am in Canada, dont use it, but they said for many years, government wont legalize it until they find a way to make money from its sale - tax, which is what happened. I did buy some cbd oil but too scared to use even that, lol But kept it, maybe will rub it on my dry feet or such!

thank you, due to health etc. sometimes wander off and forget to come back for responses etc., isn't old age grand? another thing with meds, much as I DO appreciate they have saved millions of lives all over the world, is even the quality control and can't believe the number of recalls by FDA and Health Canada, make one wonder "what" we are actually/really putting into our bodies. I once asked my family dr what meds he takes ( he was abut 55 at the time)... nothing, was the reply. Hmmm? People who know me do know I am at my wit's end physically and mentally and main reason hanging on is for my small family, we are now a set of four! Thanks again, J.

@lacy2 Until I took clindamycin for a tooth abcess, I had not been on any medications for years! Right now, I don't take anything but vitamins and probiotics. So far, so good.

@lacy2 Out of curiosity, how is the covid19 situation where you are? I am in the US, in New Jersey, and it's been a long, long recovery.

I am in northern Ontario , Canada... our Health Unit covers two districts...this small City has 54,000 people and surrounding communities... fortuntely, or unfortunately, we are surrounded by "bush" trees forest and here between two lakes so quite a bit of space compared with, say, Toronto. However, mostly, we have had to follow restrictions that are for the whole Province. I am the only one in our small family not to have the vaccine yet but am so ill (not looking for sympathy) I dont think I can take anything more right now, but no one had any reactions to first vaccine in our family. We did have an small apt. building of 100 tenants and 2 went overseas and brought it back, infected others in building and 3 died... I would think that was the worst thing, although an unnamed resident died which was "worst" for that family.
People have been coming into the Province and out all along, like USA, its a big country to "police" and someone daughter knows has been coming back and forth from Florida.
I think we have about 5th or less of USA population, so numbers are deceiving.. but I do read some of the news stories and many people have suffered beyong belief for 2021.,.and of course front line workers worn out. Who ever thought we would be living through a Pendemic and I think we all, or a lot do, fear it is far from over with the variants. Even when Covid is under control as is flu for example, then we face the financial and mental dealing with the fallout. But some countries...well we are all human and each death is more than a number eh? ps Dentist gave me same antibiotic as you at Christmas but I chose to have tooth out instead; however, over my lifetimes have had hundreds of antibiotics! Paying the price.

@lacy2 Wow! Terrible! I have been vaccinated but who knows what's to come? I remember my Mom lived through the Spanish flu epidemic but she never wanted to talk about it. Now I know why. If this ever goes away, I don't want to ever remember it. Take care of yourself!
