Heart Transplantation

I would like to hear from others who were on the waiting list for a donor heart to find out how long you waited before a Heart was available?

@glinda, Oops, January is a new year! I am happy that you are going to do something special! That sounds great. My husband and I were advised early on, to do something special to remember the anniversary of my transplant. He likes to go out to dinner, and lets me choose where we will eat:-) And I always allow myself to splurge with a yummy dessert!

That sounds fun I'm glad you had and have that support when i had my transplant I went to the hospital by myself and had the surgery by myself and had strangers as caregivers for the 3 months that i had to stay in rochester after my transplant so i don't mind spending my anniversary or as we heart transplants say are new birthdays by myself

Glinda, I know what you mean. In fact that is the reason that I joined Mayo Connect in 2011. When I was diagnosed with my liver disease, I didn't know anybody with a transplant, and I had never met anyone who shared my disease. I discovered terrific companionship here, as well as an opportunity to support others.
Where did you have your transplant? I had to be transferred to Mayo Rochester from Kentucky. Every year we drive through Wisconsin on our annual trek to Mayo. We pass the eau Claire highway split.
I will celebrate 9 year anniversary in April.
