Eliquis + Chest Pain

Hi, since April 2020 doctors discovered that I have a-fib, I was given Elquis 10mg a day, since that, I got chest pain and I can not walk. Also I am asthmatic.
Did anyone got the same symptoms?

@hayat. Since you cannot get to a doctor, can you talk to a pharmacist and ask if there are any possible drug interactions with Eliquis and the meds you are taking for your asthma. Eliquis should have a toll free customer service phone number, you can ask them if your pain and inability to walk can be a side effect. Can you go to the Emergency Room of a hospital without an appointment?

Hi, yes I am on steroids since 2012 after severe asthma. The medicine is Inuxair, sometimes I take singulair one pill a day depending on the situation. As you know the weather is so bad in Norway, cold and high humidity.

Hi Hayat,
Yes, cold weather is bad for asthma, and lung conditions. The high humidity is good for your skin, as it keeps the moisture in your skin. Here in sunny California (America) our weather is very dry with very low humidity.
I think it’s time for all of us to go to Hawaii for the winter. Anybody interested?

Have you been taking steroids? I was on for 4 years and suddenly developed steroid myopathy, which meant I could barely walk, get out of a chair, etc. Getting better now that off steroids, but neurologist said would take months to get back to normal. Feel for you.

I was diagnosed with PMR 6+ years ago. Have been on prednisone all that time without a break. Late last year I started feeling weakness in upper legs as if I were going to fall walking. Could not get around without shopping cart at stores or cane where there was no support for me. I was recently told that I have steroid myopathy and I am now at a point where I have trouble walking around the house. I'm starting physical therapy tomorrow and want to get off these steroids for good. Apparently this myopathy was caused by the steroids prescribed for the PMR. Anyone else with the same descriptions? I have also lost the strength I always had in my upper arms.

It came on so suddenly and I was on a very low dose then. I had tests every few months, sed rate etc. I assumed it was just a build up after 4 years triggered by cortisone shot in knee—turns out steroids from that get into the system, though that doc didn’t inquire about past steroid use and I think he should have. Is yours gone now? I have a little ways to go, but only off steroids for 5 weeks. Was told will take time. Listed as side effect of steroids. Grateful wasn’t something worse.

I also had cortisone shots in the knees. However was prescribed prednisone for PMR before the steroid myopathy appeared.

The are case reports in Medical Journals about Eliquis causing SEVERE leg weakness that required discontinuing the medication! https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5916542/ As a Dr. I was on Eliquis myself and had a bizarre reaction. I was waking up with a deep feeling that I KNEW I was dying! I mean I REALLY KNEW! Told DH, also a Dr., then I had to discontinue it for a few days for a dental procedure. ALL the dying feelings went away! Since that, I've seen other pts on Eliquis that are having severe panic attacks. All stop once the Eliquis is discontinued!

Sorry to hear but Eliquis is not good for all people.
After only one day on Eliquis I had severe thick phlegm, headaches, severe chest bloating, severe acid reflux, confusion/dementia and within a few hours I was in Afib and had to be cardioaverted.
The cardiologist said I was wrong it’s not the Eliquis. I stayed on the med 2 weeks and said no more. Most of the side effects faded fairly quickly. Got a new cardiologist. It’s taken 4 months for all The side effects to go away. I’m on warfarin now. It’s a slight hassle but I’m on a very low dose daily.

I’ve had Afib maybe once a year for about 6-8 years I always refuse Eliquis and was never offered any other solutions. In March I finally saw a cardiologist after and Afib event 4 months before. Yes it took that long to get an appt.
I started on Eliquis and within a day I was really sick. Headache. Phlegm so thick I couldn’t breath, lethargic, confused/dementia like, and with 6-8 hours Afib. I had to be cardioaverted.
I told the cardiologist it was the Eliquis. I was told I was wrong it’s a virus. After about 2 weeks and the day I got the “I can’t live like this” thought I threw the Eliquis away. By the next day I was feeling better. It took a month for most of the bad reactions to fade. It’s been 5 months and the stomach and chest pain bloating which proceeds my Afib events is now finally starting to fade. I wish they’d realize Eliquis isn’t the one size fits all blood thinner.

yep. read the side effects of any med. no way I would take it.
